CAI VS Short Ram VS Stock Air Box : Playing with the jetta.Gotian 11-21-2006, 09:25 AM So yestaurday in the morning it hit low 50's here, which is cold for us since we are not used to the weather dropping below 95. I went to start the jetta cause I was going to take it for the day, but the car wouldnt start properly:eek: and when it did start it would sputter. Turns out it was too cold of a start for the car and the CAI i had just made it worse because when I touched it it was freezing cold and not allowing for the car to warm up properly. So instead I took out the RX-8 for the day. When I got home from work I decided to play with the intake trying to see what would be the best for the car in this weather, which now it was colder than this morning. The RX-8 read it was about 47 degrees. I took out the tube and decided to put the filter on the MAF to imitate a short ram it worked but it lost some pull to it and just didnt feel right. With the engine still cold I decided to go to my garage and get my stock air box. I put the drop in K&N I still had and reasembled the stock set-up. The car Ran like a champ and it actually felt like it picked up more on the lower end. I am going to miss that *pshhh* Sound for a few weeks but our cold air only last for about 2 weeks then I can put it back. turtlecrxsi 11-21-2006, 12:23 PM Sounds like you have something else wrong with your car if it won't start. You must be the only one to ever lose power with a CAI... LMFAO! Gotian 11-21-2006, 01:07 PM Sounds like you have something else wrong with your car if it won't start. You must be the only one to ever lose power with a CAI... LMFAO! I didnt lose power with a CAI, I lost low end power but had more power up top, Also Once I removed the CAI it started normal with no hesitation, it was too much cold for the engine I guess. Especially when driving around, the car would not warm up it would stay well below what normal operating temps are, but when I removed it and put back the stock air box then the car was able to warm up. So that goes to show the CAI actually does it job, just too well. -Jayson- 11-21-2006, 01:19 PM you should sell the intake and pay back some of the money you owe musashi Igovert500 11-21-2006, 01:35 PM If your car isn't starting in 50 degree weather...the intake ain't your problem. THat is unless you have it put on wrong or forgot some vacuum lines or something. Gotian 11-21-2006, 01:55 PM you should sell the intake and pay back some of the money you owe musashi F-you. I figured it out cause iwasnt the only one it happened to yestaurday. It turns out some of the batteries are seizing up due to the cold weather since most batteries available here are manufactured to withstand very warm and humid climates the cold just seaps right in. It happened to the secretary here at work, happened to my dad, and a few other people I asked. BlackGT2000 11-21-2006, 03:25 PM 50 degrees isn't what I would call extreme cold by any stretch. I would have the car checked out. I don't think your intake tube being 50 degrees would cause the car not to start properly. Thats why I said it was the battery seizing up and that the people I mentioned this to said the same happened to them yestaurday morning. Musashi3000GT 11-21-2006, 06:23 PM you should sell the intake and pay back some of the money you owe musashi Oh he wont do that! see if he did that it would eventually all click together which would eventually lead to him having to admit he cant afford both the Jetta and the RX-8 and still pay me back "ON TIME". hed start by selling a simple ebay generic CAI and work his way up to having to get rid of one of his two cars! No no, thats not gonna happen. instead playboy will continue to troll around in the ride I bought him and I still get fucked! -The Stig- 11-21-2006, 06:43 PM Easy boys, take it to PM's please... leave the personal drama off the forums. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
