Seems my newest problem (funny how everything breaks at once) is my parking brake cable popped off at the driver's side rear. I have ordered a new one but I was wondering if someone could give me some pointers so i'm not doing this blind.

should have gone to the wrecking yard and removed one yourself that way you could learn on someone elses car and the cable would not cost jack either. Anyway, if you have drum brakes you'll have to remove the drum to get to that end. As for the end, I believe it is just a simple adjuster that you can loosen and take apart at the point where it splits underneath the car.

What exactly popped off?. Did the cable end snap off or did it just come loose from the caliper?

The cable snapped at the split. I have all disc brakes BTW. I am going to put it in the air during the holiday break and see what is involved. Hopefully its not a pull the gas tank out to install the cable like someone has told me.
