1999 Century Wiring Issue - Purple Plug

Hello,

Where does this plug connect? (The Purple Plug)

Just finishing up replacement of the famous lower intake manifold gasket (3.1) and have one wiring harness plug without a home.

It's the purple color coded plug on the end of the harness that's between the injector rails and between the upper and lower manifolds. This is the plug on the end of the harness toward the throttle body.

Does anyone know where this plug connects. Lost my lable while cleaning the intake surfaces and replacing the "O" rings on the injectors. :uhoh: :banghead:

Any help will be much appreciated.

Just a wild guess but check the bottom of the MAP sensor located behind the upper intake manifold and the coil packs. The connector will plug in from the bottom.

That's close, but...

That plug comes off the side of the same harness - the purple coded one is on the end of the harness so it should connect to something close to the throttle body.

Thanks for your reply.

The only other possibilities I can think of are maybe to the coil pack. There are two connector plugs on each side of the coil pack. Other than that TPS, IAC, EGR and Purge Solenoid. :dunno:

Good luck.

I'm pretty much an amateur with newer auto electronics and will check out your clues.

We can rule out coil packs, module, throttle position sensor etc.

Engine runs fine at all speeds and the only symptom I have now is the "Service Engine Soon" light is lit even after clearing the trouble memory. That indicates it's not related to emissions

Fuel economy apparently does not suffer as the fuel gauge came off full at a little over 100 miles and my recollection is it was normally between 80 and 90 miles before replacing the upper and lower intake gaskets.

Do you know the location of the "Purge Solenoid"? I suppose it's possible I routed this pigtail out the wrong location from between the upper and lower intake manifolds.

Perhaps this weekend I'll stop by a used car dealership and look at another Century.

Your help is soooo much appreciated.

John B. :)

Checking out another Century is a good idea to compare. The purge solenoid should be located to the right of the throttle body bewteen the TPS and EGR valve. Also, there should be at least two vacuum lines connected to it. Good luck.

That would be very close to the area where this purple color coded plug is located right now. :grinyes:

I'll take one more look before visiting a dealership.

You're the best!
