There is a sound that seems to be getting louder coming from the rear of my car. Sort of a whew whew whew sound that speeds up and slows down with the car. It is not the brake dragging because it is there with the brake applied.
My wife crawled back, ear to side panel and listened and said it seems to be from the Right wheel. We rotated the tires and the noise is still back there. What can it be????

Does Anyone Have Any Idea What That Noise Can Be????

My Jeep makes a noise in the back end too but it sounds like a plane taking off hahaha

Anyway its my bearings, you might want to get that checked

Probably bearing and hub. Mine made the same sound but it was a front wheel. SJ

If anyone is still watching this thread, the noise is your rear axle. If you take it out, you will notice that the bearing rides on the axle and there will be some pitting where it rides.

Hi ALL
I'm the guy that posted the original thread over a year ago. No one answered me for almost two weeks and I forgot about it. BUT, It is still making the same noise, It does not seem to be getting any louder. I just crawled under it today to check the rear end oil, got the rubber plug out and only mashed two knuckles, but the oil looks brand new, nice and clean.

Waddayathink??????

If it is not getting any louder, I would add more insulation to deaden the noise. A new axle shaft from the Jeep dealer is around $500.
