Personally, I've come to the conclusion that it's just not cost-effective to make the 2.5RS motor "fast." It can be done, and the result is fairly impressive (see Subie Sport's zero to hero project), but for a comparable amount of money and less effort, a motor swap provides better results. That's my :2cents:.

By the time you finish tweeking out your turbo conversion, 2008 STI would be out. Don't do it.

How much more power do you want? A turbo isn't the only option...

Save your $$$ for the 2008 STI, and in the meantime improve the driver (;)) at auto-x, rally-x or whatever you can find near you.

"Hint, hint, nudge, nudge, know-what-I-mean, know-what-I-mean?" from the man who lives for the little red button. Jason is starting to sound like a crack dealer. "I can get you high, man." Seriously, though, nitrous is a great cheap option for speed, and the fact that it's highly illegal on the streets means that you'll (hopefully) keep yourself safe on the public streets by avoiding temptation. The bottle contains many good things, but they are all track-only. Plus, the nitrous bottle will make you a track addict. "Must go fast, must go to drag strip..." (or in my case, "Must go fast, must go to autocross...").

what about a supercharger? what things need to be changed to run nos?

No matter what type of forced induction you go with, you're going to have to do a whole lot more than just bolting up a compressor.

A little research goes a long way.

I've put NOS in my 98 legacy with the 2.5 engine . Without any problems , you can run 50 to 75 shots . A good and effective setup will cost you around 1500$ ( and after that , you'll have to refill the bottle ). I don't think NOS is worth all the trouble because you're gaining power once in a while . I would for an engine swap ( Ej20T). If you still want NOS for your car , just say so and I'll post a reply explaining you all that you need .

well if you want lots of power then i agree and wait till the new STi comes out but, if you want a few more hp, maybe increase the responce of the engine, then just do the little things (CAI, Header & exhaust, Chip, underdrive pully) and call it good, if you want a little more then do cams and a flywheel and clutch, but watch out because modding is a slippery slope and soon you won't be able to buy that STi i personally would save my money for some mods for the STi, but thats just me

You can't mod a Subaru randomly like you would a Ford, do research before you start modding.

This shows a fundamental misunderstanding of the Subaru ethos. For the most part, Subaru has already done the "little things" for you. Which is part of the reason the Impreza is so popular. Even on the RS, most of that stuff is above-average already. Headers for a boxer engine are ten times more complicated than they are for an inline-four. Exhaust can be done well (and relatively easily), but it takes quite a bit of research to find one that gives good power and sounds good at the same time. An intake upgrade is usually better served by a short-ram than a cold-air intake (CAI). Not always, but again, do your research first. Chip is easy, but expensive. Pullies are... well, stick your head in the engine bay and see if you can find them. They're in there somewhere, just keep lookin'.

They're not still on the front of the engine? That was the damn easiest mod I've done.

It's the pulley covers which threw him off :icon16:

Hey, I can't help you don't know the fundamental differences between the 22B and the topic of this thread. You do realise the 22B has a 2.2L engine, right?:smooch:

My point was that the pullies are not as accessible on my WRX as they are/have been on any of my other cars (or on my best friend's Focus, which tragically was lost in an incident involving low traction and front-wheel drive... the Focus, not the friend).
