My wife's 2002 Century had something strange happen last week. We were driving along fine and all of a sudden when she turned on the left turn signal on it went into dephip!!! This still happens whenever the left turn signal in turned on but never on the right side. The turn signal on the left always flashes rapidly but only the left one. I did a quick of the bulbs and all are ok except one of the middle running lights on the trunk lid! Has anyone else here experienced this and know of a fix???

Thanks in advance,

Check the respective lamp socket of the bulb not working and make sure no wires are open or shorted first. Another possibility is you may have a bad contact on the multifunction switch (stalk).

I had the same exact problem with my Buick - replace the flasher -should be located above the accelerator, or under the dash close to the steering wheel.

sorry - when you turn the signal in the direction that doesn't work - does the turn signal light indicator come on and stay on in the IP cluster if you keep the stalk turned in that direction? If so, it is almost 99.9% sure to be the flasher.

Thanks for the advice guys. The turn signal work on the left side it just flashed rapidly. I'll try replacing the flasher unit and the bad bulb. Wierd thing is that the only bad bulr is a running light on the right side not the left!

If you haven't done that already replace the suspected bulb first.

You can change the flasher unit if you would like but it will probably not resolve the issue with the left signal not working properly. The right signals use the same flasher and the way it is wired via the hazard/multifunction switch would preclude it being the problem since the right side is working.

The trunk running light problem sounds like a bad bulb so replace it. The bulbs are 194 mini lamps.

Thanks bnaylor...that's what I was thinking about the flasher unit. It works fine for the right side so how could it be bad? I'll try the cheap way out and replace the bulbs first. The only other time I have seen anything like this before is when you wire up trailer lights and do not put in a heavy duty flasher, they flash real quick but the same on both sides. This just seemed bizzare when it happened. I guess it's the manufactures way of freaking you out to take it to a dealer so you can get reamed for un-needed repairs!:banghead:

If you have not found the problem check the running lamp socket mine had a broken connector in it and it was causing similar problems and eventually vaporised the plastic on the bulb. (that was how I finally figured it out)
