Greetings all,

I am the proud owner of a 1996 formula-1. The problem I am having is that I am failing emmission test on a DTC P1661 code. I did look this up and saw it was a Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) Control Circuit. I can't figure out how this has to do with the emmission and if I can fix this myself (no warrinty anymore so taking it to the shop is a bit expensive :grinyes: ). If anyone has any info I would appreciate it.

Ok so I found out that it is in fact the bulb but I have no idea on the access to it.

bulb..behind the cluster? if so, there should be maybe 2-4 screws holding the front cover on..take those off. then theres another 4 holding the clear face onto the back.. take the clear cover off, its held on by clips.. then the clear cover will slip off, after you take that off, the cluster just pops out of its connectors. you can see which bulb is burnt out, its just a twist/pop off type..

After taking the panel apart (which is a snap, 15mins tops) I did find that there are a cluster of instrument bulbs (part #31 at Auto zone) that was burnt out. Replaced it with no problems and I am off to get the emmissions test again. I need to get a handheld unto to pull the codes off my cars computer, does anyone have a link or does anything like that exist? I don't feel like paying $50 to get codes :grinyes: .

Thanks
