89 deville, fdc will flash when it works or it will give info in Km or liters or just "d". also had to disconnect the a/c because it wouldn't shut off could this be the BCM? and if so does the dealer have to re-progam? and WHAT THE HECK DOES IT CONTROL? :frown:

You can have up to 7-9 modules /computers on it.
Ac and heater usually has it own climate control module.
The BCM controls a lot of body stuff lights gauges and stuff lihe that.
There is a self diagnost system on them that will check all of the modules.
Get a good service book and pull codes from self diagnostic check.

Can't pull codes because the fuel data center reads "d"

That makes it difficult.
You will need to find some one with a scanner to check it out or maybe a good service manual would help trouble shoot the dead data center.
Good Luck

That is going to be a tough one.
I think but not sure that the AC/heater climate controls has it own control module.
But here is the repair for them 2 codes.

The codes point to the climate control display. which you may have to fix and then run the self diagnostic on it to find the main problem.
Good Luck and let us know how it goes.

If you want to DIY it a all data sub or a good factory repair manual would led you threw the repair.
You might also pickup some good bone yard parts
http://www.alldata.com/products/diy/index.html

You might check around for a good general repair shop.
Check around Ask around
Word of mouth.
Family friends coworkers neighbors business people and delivery people.
Mailmen and parcel delivery people get around and notice a lot of stuff.
Even a good parts house knows what shops are good and not good.
Chamber of commerce and better business bureau and city hall.
If you find a good referral to a repair shop go look them over and talk to them.
Look for a clean looking busy place with nice people running it.
Ask a few questions and ask about their qualifications and training.
Not all places have trained tech/mechanics.
If they do not find a place that does.
Even all dealers do not have all trained techs/mechanics.

I live in a rural area and the caddy dealer seems to think that if you own one you want them to do all the service without asking. I went there two years ago to fix the a/c because it wouldn't turn off (like now) and the fuel data was acting up intermittetly. the said the fuel data center was fine claimed the BCM was replaced. Did a brake job rotated the tires, changed the oil. and tried to charge me 500.+ I paid for the BCM and that was it and here I am with the same prob again. The next dealer is in thre next state.

10-4 on that Poppabear.
Cad dealers seem to think people that drive cad's are made of money to.
I would say your problem is more in one of the heater blower /or ac-heater control modules.
But without the display working it will not run the self test that would point you to the problem.
Look and check around and see if you can find a good general shop that can help you out.
But first try the relay or switch the relays that work whatever that does not turn off.
Is it the ac compressor or heater fan that does not turn off?
Good Luck and let us know how it goes.

it's just the fan that continues to run. could you tell me where the relays are located? My haynes book doesn't say much. would you suggest replacing the unit on the dash? :uhoh:

Look at the firewall on the passenger side. You will see the area for the blower motor. Coming from it will be a wiring harness leading to a spot to the left of it and plugged in to something held into the plenum by two screws. Unplug that connector and see if the fan stops. If it does, remove the two screws and extract the blower module. It has failed. Caddy dealer will screw you on it. Price it online at www.gmotors.com, www.gmpartsdirect.com, and www.rockauto.com.

DFbonnett Has got it covered for you.
I think the relay or whatever is made in it.
Also may be called the ECC electronic climate control module.
Here is a PDF on it.

Same issue on my '91.
There should be a resistor and heat sink housed above the blower motor. This is wired directly to the blower motor below. Easy fix but hard to find part.

Whats the fix? disconnect?replace the resistor?

DFBonnett

If the blower goes off when you disconnect at the module, the module is bad and the fix is replacement of the module.

If the connectors don't match up I can't see how it could work.
