clunk from rearABELL4610 11-07-2006, 12:56 AM I get a clunking sound from the rear sometimes when starting from a stop. Some threads seem to think it is sway bar bushings. Are these the same as stabilizer bar bushings? Does this sound like a fix for this noise? Thanks all! Daniel M. Dreifus 11-07-2006, 07:44 PM Stabilizer bar is also called anti sway bar, so the bushings would be the same. You can see them. See if you can move the bar by hand if the bushings are loose. The bushings are relatively easy to change. Brian R. 11-09-2006, 11:29 AM Have your suspension and brakes checked out carefully by a professional mechanic. Stabilizer bar bushings usually squeak or groan, not clunk. If I were a betting man, I'd bet that it's not the stabilizer bushings, although it is still possible. GSS123 11-09-2006, 03:16 PM I had a clunk from a bad rear strut, but only on rough roads. Have you checked and made sure your spare tire and tire jack are properly secured in you car trunk? ABELL4610 11-10-2006, 01:52 AM I have had it checked by professional mechanics. When they check it, it is the wrong time, I guess, because it doesn't clunk then. Yes, the spare and jack are firmly secured, but that was a good thought. Thanks to you both! Mike Gerber 11-10-2006, 03:02 PM What year Camry is this? Mike PAman 11-12-2006, 06:56 PM My wife's 01 with 73K needed rear stabilizer bar bushings to correct that type of noise. Cheap and easy, so why not? Original bushings appeared good installed and uninstalled. R&R of 4 bolts wouldn't correct other issues, so I know it was the bushings...suggest getting the 4 bolts new from Toyota 1st, mine were pretty rusty, but tight. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
