Ok. Ive been having issues trying to get my car to start.. I think ive got it down to the timing belt.

Ive checked out my haynes manual and I know where to set the crank shaft pully but I dont know where to set the crankshaft sprocket nor do I know what to use to loosen the belt tensioner...

Please help

I need to know if both knotches on the pullys go up, down, togather, away from each other.. Im not sure what to do,

If you look at the side of the block, there is going to be an arrow. There will also be a corresponding mark on the crank shaft pulley. To get TDC, you will line those up. Then you have the arrows on the spokes of the cam-shaft pulley. You need to make sure those are perpendicular to the top of the head (without the valve cover on). With both of those combined, you should have TDC. Then, after you get it all together, there are three other marks on the accessory pulley that will correspond to a mark on the timing cover, and that is how you will set the timing with a light. I'd post pictures, but mine is all the way back together, and that's alot of work to tear down. :D

I think you mean parallel, perpendicular will set them 90* from TDC.

Genious. Thank you. :P Figured you would respond before me, seeing as you know alot more.

And, as far as the camshaft is concerned, MAx, you're drawing is correct. Just make sure to line up the line on the Crankshaft pulley (It's a notch in the actual gear part) with the mark on your block. :)

Hummmm ... Well I think that is how it was... i'll double check just to make sure... (god I hope thats the problem)
