i own a 1999 for contour lx. I know many people have asked before but my car is super rough when it is idling in park or at a stop. i disconnected the maf sensor and it helps a little but im also thinking that it could be the iac valve and i just did a tune up but i need to replace the pcv i cant do it until i get a lift at school. its in a strange location any feedback would be great!

i found it yesterday i have a 4 cylinder. i cleaned it with carb cleaner but no difference i might have to replace it but brand new its around 175. any other ideas what the problem could be if that turns out not to be it?

I think its time to shop around. I know my local dealer doesnt charge that much. If anything you could go through Bill Jenkins on CEG. He gives us discounts since he works at a dealership.

Good news i found the part after some digging and it was only 70 bucks. i have to wait for it tho they had to order it but its a lot better than the origional quote of 175, then napa told me 195.

I replaced the idle air control but it still does it the only thing i have yet to do is the pcv because its under the car but itll get done soon. i also noticed the last time i was under the car that there was a hose that was very soft where it meets the car so i think it needs to be replaced

probably have unmetered air entering after the MAF somewhere caused by an intake leak. Perhaps that hose is the culprit.

If you have no vacumme leak (assuming you've tested it), you might check on the condition of the o2 sensors. could be running to rich. As far as the MAF, unplugging it wont get you an idea of it's efficiency... you need to test it properly.. if you don't know how to do these things, and have a CEL on, get the car scanned before you nickle and dime yourself to death.
A vaccume leak sounds plauisble, i hope its just that. Use a propane torch and wave the fumes around the suspected leak area, listen for variations in the idle.. Dont worry about the PCV valve.. i'll garentee its ok. The obvious thing is... check your spark-plugs as well.

i replaced the sparkplugs and gapped them im going to vacuum test the car tomorrow and ill let you know how it went

Great news guys i fixed the problem! there was a faulty vacuum hose under the car and i couldnt see it until i got it on the lift at school today. i replaced the hose and she runs like a gazell!!!!!!!!!!
