Bought this from an elderly woman, it was her husbands and she never drove it so she couldn't tell me much about it. There is 100,000 miles on it. Changed tranny fluid, filter also oil. It passed inspection. Told garage to change antifreeze and check ac. Something told me to check radiator when I got home. Overflow was bone dry, took cap off and couldn't see any antifreeze so I added about half gal. water. There was light brown greasy stuff on cap and when I put water in overflow and reved engine brown greasy stuff went in there also. I don't think they did the antifeeze, what do you think. The other problem is that I have to let car run for about 10 minutes before it will shift and then it runs fine. Haven't drove it because of the stuff in radiator and will be flushing it out when weather is a little warmer. Any advice would be deeply appreciated. Thanks :uhoh:

Welcome to AF, was the trans doing this before the service, is it full? Cooling system needs a complete flush, make sure that there is not actually some oil in the coolant also.

I hope I'm doing this right!? I bought the wagon for $100 bucks knowing that the car had to idle for 10-15 minutes and thought I'd change the tranny fluid and filter and it would kinda get better? What puzzles me is that the garage that inspected it was supposed to put new antifreeze in. Could driving it less than a mile make the antifreeze almost clear and light brown gunky grease be in it? If oil is getting in the radiator does that mean a bad head gasket? Going to flush out radiator and put antifreeze in it. Will keep you posted. Thanks so much for your help.
