This is a message to all you potential s2000 buyers out there in the Vancouver area. If you were thinking of buying your car at Carter Honda - please seriously re-consider. Without going into everything in great detail, I'll tell you why.

The folks down at Carter Honda and Carter HondaShop (service department) don't know what they are doing when it comes to fixing the s2000 - and if yours ever has problems, you'll encounter the same level of frustration that I am going through.

My car has not been working for six weeks now - each time it has come back from the dealership 'fixed' when it is not! I have spoken with everyone from managers, assistant managers, mechanics, and service advisors in order for the car to get sorted out and it simply isn't being fixed.

I will be calling Honda Canada tomorrow (as they are closed at 4:30) to lodge a formal complaint. From what I have read on these forums previously, this type of 'service' is nothing new to Carter.

I have suggested that they re-consider the statement on their web site which is: “the best dealership for Honda vehicles in the Greater Vancouver area” because I know that myself, as well as every person I have told about my ordeal certainly has a different opinion.

Jay!

How'd you make directional quotation marks?

Welcome to AF. :D Sorry to hear about your car. :( Thanks for posting, though. We have a lot of Canadian members and readers. I'm sure they'd like to know.

What happen to your car?

I got directional ""'s from cutting and pasting from Word.

Let's see - where to start. My car's 6 months old, 9,000 KMS. Shortly after the 1st service and oil change, it started a bad clunking noise on start up, started idling real low and then vtec disabled. I took it in, and they said they couldn't find anything wrong, bring it back again. I did, and they supposedly fixed 'the problem', as well as replaced my clutch plate. However, after that the check engine light came on and vtec still not working. I was told to continue driving it as "I know the car and don't worry about the light, just worry if the oil light comes on"?! So, I did, and had an appointment to get it looked into again. In the meantime, I went back to the sales dept. to lodge a complaint about this level of service and they said they'd ensure the problem got looked after. The car was then in the shop 9 days and after me checking up on it all the time, they eventually said it was ready, but that it had been stalling? Anyhow, picked it up, drove it the 1st day, seemed to work, next day, no vtec. They replaced the vacuum control selanoid, and vtec selanoid - obviously not the problems with the vtec. I am now one very disappointed customer and upon visiting the dealership again last night, was assured that it will be fixed. Hmmm, heard that one before! It's the long weekend and I wanted to go away - don't feel like taking the trip in a little Civic, especially when I pay the big bucks to lease an s2000! The assistant service manager assures me that he'll get it fixed - and that they'll hook it up to the computer and take a 'snap shot' of the problem. Hmmm, this is what I was told before my 3rd visit. I'm on #4 and checking into the equivalent of the lemon law here in Canada. With this sour taste in my mouth, it seems like I have a lemon car?!

You are not the only disappointed customer from there.

Hmmm, would that be you too? What happened?

Do you know of any others as well - it'd be interesting to get this type of data as it'd go a long way when I speak with the head honchos at Honda Canada...

It's a really long story. I'll cut it short and simple. Basically they sign a contract with us. Then in turn added something later on to that contract without our consent. We weren't able to get a copy of the final contract because they claim it was in house only. So in the end we end up paying a lot more. Anyways I did file a complain to Honda Canada and no actions have been taken.

That's too bad - in most contracts, there's a provision that says nothing is to be added or subtracted without written consent of both parties - to stop this kind of thing. If something was added afterwards, you should have had to initial it. But as you say, long story, so it's probably not as easy as that. Oh ya, called Honda Canada, and well, hmm, that's a waste of time! Nice enough guys, just don't really seem to actually do anything.

Do you get it fix by now? Why don't you take it to a different dealer?:)

The part the change about the contract was about the car I was trading in. It wasn't about the new S2000 we were about to pickup.

Yeah, I am switching dealerships and have an appointment with Richmond Honda on Friday. From the service I've received already from them, all seems to be going well!

FYI, we are planning a Vancouver area s2000 drive on Saturday 22nd, meeting at Queen Elizabeth Park 10 AM. The plan is to go on to Whistler from there cruising down Robson on the way (of course)!

Anyone interested?

Do you have any estimate of how many people own Honda S2000 in Vancouver? Before I bought my 2000 Maxima I was looking at the S2000 here but because of the limit quantity on hand( usually only one per dealer) they raise the price of the window sticker. :flash:

I'm taking my car in to Richmond Honda next week and see what they can do. If they can't do anything, then I am going to have to closely review the Sale of Goods Act and see what I can apply to this case. Hopefully it won't get to that as it's such a beauty of a car otherwise!

Please feel free to post back if you are planning on coming so that we make sure we have everyone before pressing those start buttons!

Will we be back for 2 pm? Cause I have a appointment on that day.

I kind of doubt we'll be back for 2 PM as we'll probably only start our drive after 12 PM. Maybe you could still come and do the Robson cruise with us?

Unfortunately I can't make the trip to whistler. But I will go meet up all the s2000 owner around 12pm. Where in QE?

leesa

It's on Cambie/33rd. If you turn into the park off 33rd (just opposite the ball stadium) follow the road to the left - uphill- towards the restaurant and then hang a left instead of parking in the restaurant parking lot. You'll go up a winding road to the top parking lot. Contingency plans if it's raining though will probably be a drive to Oakridge mall and take over some space in their underground lot.

See you there!

So at the biodome parking lot then. You guys will still be there at 12pm right? Do you know how many S2000 owner is going so far? Without much luck ever since I bought the S2000 I haven't found any local club.

I will be doing a tally - hopefully around 10 or so. Yeah, the dome parking lot it is! We were aiming for 11:30 if at all possible - some people have got to be back in town as they have plans afterward.
See you there!
