270? thats all? holy crap man, you must drive it like you stole it. I drive stop and go, highway and freeway every day. about 60 miles round trip. I get 350miles every 3/4 tank. I fill up when it hits a quarter to keep the rust and water from getting pumped into the engine.

funny thing about my car - its always been like this too.

I can drive upwards of 340/tank if i drive continious. Like i can drive from my house to detroit and back on 1 tank (320 miles)

and i am 1 mile from the highway - so yeah - i pretty much am right to 73 mph - i dont tromp it though

new wires, plugs, air cleaner. i do need to change the PCV valve however

"Miles per tank" is almost meaninless, since different people will consider "empty" at a different point. Miles per gallon or kilometers per litre are the standard metrics for fuel consumption. It's easy to calculate, since almost every fuel pump I've ever seen displays the volume of fuel pumped at every sale. All you have to do is record it and do the math.

Best I ever did was 412 miles, I filled it in east Omaha, meant to get gas in KC and forgot....came off the ramp back home in St Louis and it stumbled and backfired throught the intake when I turned right onto the street, and I realized it was empty  ...just made it into the first gas station about half a block down...

I figured 29.4 mpg on that ride. Very nice. Usually it's more like 20-24 with a combo of city/highway driving.

Now when i run down to Springfield and back, I get lousy milesage, because I rarely drop below 90, and stay in triple digits when I can...takes almost the whole tank to drive the 225 miles...

But man is it fun...:evillol:

In my '96 Lumina (3100) I went from El Paso, TX all the way to Gila Bend, AZ on a tankful which was approximately 440 miles. Traveling to San Diego. Talk about running on fumes. I was praying I would not run out of gas and thankfully a Texaco gas station finally came into view on the outskirts of that jerkwater town. I coasted to it. From there to Yuma is like being on the moon. I learned my lesson. Best to carry spare gas on those trips.

any of you have a faulty fuel gauge?

Any fixes?

Yes, our 97 Lumina has a faulty fuel gage. That is why we have to keep track of the mileage using the miles per tank method. We fill up at 300 miles. Used to be 360 till the day my wife called me from work when she ran out of gas. She used the AC too much on that tank. Now she fills up at 300 miles.
