I need help!! I have a 99 Neon 2.0 DOHC The problem is, is that latley, when i start the car, it starts right up, but then it stalls. If I give it some gas, the tach. will climb smoothly up to 3000 rpms, then if I let my foot off the gas, the RPM flutters up and down. Latley, if I start to drive it, and the engine is cold it will stall at the stop lights or when I stop in general. Even in the summer!! I cant keep it running long enough to get it to warm up, unless I drive it with the RPMs fluttering up and down until I get above about 60 MPH Also, even when its warm, it will stall when I put it in reverse, what the heck is going on. Please help!!!

Ok, I recently had an inquiry as to what the hell was wrong with my Neon, becuase it stalled when I put it in reverse, the tach was bouncing all over....Well, started digging down deep in the engine, and found that it was a vacum hose problem. I replaced those, and the car runs great again. If any of you have a similar problem now you know what it is....So, now that my car runs, im still trying to sell it if anyone is interested. Im asking 2500, it only has 83k miles, it's 99 DOHC auto,....Email me: adrelles@comcast.net

Just wanted to let you all know that I FINALLY sold my Neon, and it will be gone on Thursday YAY!!! This was one of the WORST cars i've ever owned. It cost WAY more to maintain then it did to even buy the damn thing. So upon selling this neon, I went out and bought a 97 Subaru Legacy 2.5 GT Sedan, and oh man, what you all are missing!!!

You've willingly owned 4 neons? Why?

You've willingly owned 4 neons? Why?Because they are great cars and cheap and easy to fix, if you know what you are doing :grinyes:

I had a similar issue, I changed my fuel filter (along with the ignition coil lock, thermostat, and spark plugs) and it work wonderfully, stalling was due to impurities in the fuel, all better now though. I lied, it didnt fix it, i am back to the same issue, so it wasnt the filter

To add another note to this post. A dodge truck I owned would start and die. Would only run if you kept your foot on the gas. I put a new battery in it and problem solved. It would run the vehicle if rpm's were high enough to make alternator put out enough voltage. Easier to start these new vehicles than it is to run them.May be the same on neons as well.

same here ive also owned 4 neons good lil cars especially if my first one has been in a few lil wrecks and still runs good..... took a turn 90 degree turn at 75 mph came out with a blown tire....ran off the road lost my body kit no other body damage.... and finally i jumped a ditch and all it did was push the front back a lil, cracked the transmission housing and it still ran, it hessitated in first gear but after that it would haul ass like nothing ever happen
