Off-road lights-- what is the best way to mount them on a stock front end? drill holes in the bumper or is there some sort of bracket? (i'm talking about the lights many have that *seem* to mount on the metal bumper and partially cover the grille)

how thick can the light be for good mounting and does anyone have pics of this?

also, maybe some suggestions for lights to look at. i go off-road alot, but don't do "off-roading" or OHV parks, etc. i need them to light the pitch black fireroads/s.t./d.t. on occaision.

so the price is more important to me than high performing light technology because i won't be using them often enough to justify a big expense- but boy, i really miss them sometimes!

KC Daylighters or Hellas might be what you are looking for then. They are both great lights but are far less expensive than IPF's and PIAA offerings. You can get generic offroad lights even cheaper. I think that 4x4parts.com sells some that are pretty inexpensive.

Like wq! said, check out the Hella 500 series lights...I think they're right up your alley. I know Swampwrecker, KillerX, and a few others have these mounted to their stock front bumpers, all they did was drill some holes...the lights are light enough (sorry 'bout the pun) that there is no problem with supporting them off of the bumper.

The IPF Super Rally lights (960's?) have been on sale a lot too. $200 most places. They are thin profile so they should fit the bumper fine, and are great lights.

my opinion is to buy good quality lighting in the first place even though its alittle more expensive. in the long run you'll end up saving money because you dont have to go out and buy a new pair of lights for every new vehicle or different application you get. typically with a high quality set of lights you get a good quality wiring harness, good switches, and relays. most of the lower end lights just give you a jumble of wires and say goodluck. if you bought some IPF 960's you could mount them on the bumper, then maybe later down the road if you got a grille guard or ARB you could mount it on that. They also make great lighting to put up on the roof due to their wide beam pattern (although not as wide as a fog beam). Then again if you wanted some lights to run on the street thats a whole different story. Of course all of these are my own personal opinions but i figured you wanted to hear opinoins from others before buying.
