life span of a rotor

I have a 2003 9-3 linear, it runs great. The car has 57,000km (just over 30,000miles). Last week, the car was sent in for regular maintenance at a Saab dealer. The dealership called me to let me know that the front brakes went down to 25% and needed a brake job (change of brake pads). I figured that was OK . Then I received another call later telling me that the front rotors needed to be replaced as well.:uhoh: I was very surprised.

How long should a set of rotors last with normal driving condition (mostly highway driving)?

Thanks, jk

Rotor life span under normal driving conditions believe is from 30-40 thousand miles.

Thanks for the reply.

I can't believe the lifespan of a rotor is the same as its brake pads. From my experience with Chevy, Honda, Mazda, Volvo, etc., a rotor can be trued at least once before it gets too close to the minimum required thickness for safety.

I bought this car brand new and have all services done at the same SAAB dealer ever since. My car never had any brake work done on it until this last visit. This is the first time I was told that my car needed new rotors and new brake pads even though there were still 25% left in the pads!?! :eek7:

Were my car's original rotors defective? Any comments from SAAB owners about their cars rotor lifespans will be much appreciated.

Thanks,
jk

Your lucky not to have a 1980's Saab 9000, they had problems chewing thru brakes & rotors at 8-10k mi.!
