i just looked at a 1988 delta 88 olds. it has 184,000 miles on it and it seems to still run and drive excellent, it looks to have been well taken care of the interior looks good and the body only has minor rust and some paint fading. i got them talked down to 700 dollars for it. would this car last a long time? i have heard that the older 3800 engines will run into 300,000 miles but have never actually seen it. just wondering if this would be a good deal for a work car???

Sounds like a reasonable price for a car that appears to be well taken care of. I live in upstate NY where they use a lot of salt on the roads which causes cars to rust out prematurely. I still see a lot of GM G & H bodied cars from the late '80s and early '90s still in great shape and on the road. Many other cars from that era are already sitting in the salvage yards. The 3800 in those cars was a strong engine lasting in many cases over 200,000 miles. If you want a second opinion, take it to a mechanic you trust for a thorough inspection before you buy.

i say if its been taken care of and runs great go for it.

these cars are beasts they'll run forever if you take care of them
plus they are easy/fun to work on so there shouldnt be to much trouble.

everyone here should be able to help you with any problems that may come up in the future because they helped me bring my car back from the grave.

yes, that sounds very reasonable. I've seen these cars in junkyard with 300k plus miles. I think the most I've seen was 346k miles. As long as you take care of it, the car will last indefinately.

And since gobs of these cars were made, then parts are easy and fairly cheap to come by.

any car thans runs good and looks half-decent is worth $700. dont be surprised if you have to do a repair now and then, though.

the check engine light came on briefly, read the code with my scantool and its a failing o2 sensor, not to big of deal there, couple of things with the interior need fixed, sagging headliner and the driver door armrest has seperated from the door, also not really a big deal to me. seems to be great!

I have the 1990 version with the 3800. I'm the 2nd owner. The first owner was a retired lady who only (well, almost) drove it to the VFW Bingo night. It has 191K and the engine is tight:) The headliner is gone and drivers seat cushion has lost it's support, and there is some body rust (I live 4 miles from the Gulf of Mexico:disappoin ). I love this car and am trying to decide if I should repaint it. For $700 you appear to have made a good deal.

yea i think i got an excellent deal, im also only the 2nd owner on this car. an old couple had it before, bought it new in 88 but they did alot of traveling in it. Im also thinkin of having mine painted this summer before the spots that have lost paint start to rust. ive already put 1500 miles on it and i just bought it last week! its a blast to drive, im workin on gettin some pics of it to post. i think i got alot of car for the money with this one.:iceslolan
