Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Stuck on

I am having an issue with my transmission!
My wife said it started shuttering after I fixed the IMG (Intake Manifold Gasket). Today I drove the van and shortly after leaving the house the "Check Engine Light" came on, so I decided it needs to be parked until we figure out what is up with it.
I borrowed my Brother in laws scanner and found out it had a code of P0742 "Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Stuck On".
I checked the trans fluid, and Yep it is not really red anymore, its kind of translucent tan color. I assume the fluid is that color from the engine getting hot while having IMG probs. Does anyone have any recomendations?
your comments are greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

I have a 2001 ventrure (WB), and had the same problem... I ran the diagnostics and got the same code.
The purple/grey color fluid usually means there is water or coolant in the tranny fluid... Not a good thing. The only place for coolant to get into the tranny is in the radiator. If you are looking at the front of the van, there is a smaller metal tube on the left, that comes in the top and out the bottom. This is where the tranny fluid gets cooled down. This is also a place where the coolant pressure is greater than the tranny fluid pressure...

The first thing I did was check my coolant level. If it is low, that means (if you don't have a coolant leak elsewhere), it more than likely has a leak in the tranny cooling line. Mine was low.

I replaced the radiator (quite a big job, just to replace a radiator), and took the van in to have it's tranny fluid flushed (not just drained and replaced). It took about 6 complete cycles before the fluid completly cleared up! The tranny is now holding its color. However, the check engine light didn't go off, and the problem (jerking while driving) still exists.

As of now, I am pretty sure the tork converter suffered some damage from the bad fluid. Next up is to tear out the tranny...

Hope this helps...

Is this stuttering happening at idle or low speeds, no clear explanation of the conditions in your post, an engine misfire can cause this also, poor connection at the plugs, injectors. If this is not an issue with the engine you could change fluid and filter add some Lubegard and try that. The TCC solenoid may be contaminated and not completely releasing causing a partial engagement and shudder or the TCC itself may have failed.

Ok the check engine soon light is on and it is code 742. What you all said sounds the exact problems I am experiencing with my 98 Olds Silhouette. I haven't checked the transmission fluid color yet as it is dark but tomorrow I will and I have noticed the coolant level in the reservoir dropping slightly over serveral weeks time.

What was the final outcome for everyone on the repairs and costs?
