Well here it is... and as a former ford Tech I am at a loss but have I deas. Now I have replaced all of my ignition parts and fixed all cracked and showing wire's in the harness. and A new cam sensor and the O2 sensors are good. also the fuel regulator and filter are new... But I am building up gas in the oild, crappy gas mileage and very hard starting. I am starting to think that either the head gaskets are going out or the the rings are just about shot. this is on the 2.5 v6. I never saw this problem on a contour befor when I workerd for a ford dealer and I am taking a long shot at those guess'es if anyone has a better I dea. please let me know. I am sick of this issue. Oh anthor possible clue it that I went from a max speed of 130+ to about 112. thanks.:banghead:

max speed is (supposed to be?) ECU limited to 113 mph on the non SVT contours.

maybe you should take those 97 SVT and 96 parts off :grinyes:

Was your injector harness cracked?

If it was, i wouldnt be surprised if one of your rings is washed out. Do a compression test. That will tell you whats up.

:werd & what of engine trouble codes???

I have a 98 4 cyl countour. Alternator went bad. put new alt in and plugs got wet. wouldn't start. New plugs lasted 1K started stalling at start and then ran ok. finally plugs fouled again. Replaced plugs and wires and still have problem.

like i said, what are the trouble codes??? too much fuel being sprayed by the injectors... mebbe a bad ECT sensor making the car's pc thinking the vehicle is still "cold" so it enriches the mixture... foul your plugs...

a bad o2 sensor can make your car run in "open loop" also making your air-fuel mix to be too rich...

there's a whole bunch of stuff that'll make you run too rich, that's why you're having wet plugs!

or fuel injector leak or mebbe the ecu took a dump when the alt went...

come on! use your former tech buddies @ the dealership to help you out if you can't perform the OBD II scan; even a lowly autozone parts slinger can plug in a scanner to see if there's any codes stored in the ecu...

The compression test mentioned should be your next step to rule out mechanical problems... beyond that, check simple things first, like your plugs.. if you installed new ones.. are they gapped correctly? You could have a leaky injector...
There are many tests you can perform on the engines sensors with a simple multi-meter. Test the TPS, ECT and the MAF. check your reference voltage supplys.. outputs. Check the wiring by doing your voltage drop tests, high resistance can increase reference voltage to a sensor, ultimately changing its output values. confirm you get the same readings from sensor end wires to the PCM... Test your 02 sesor outputs...
Most importantly, post your findings here.
