The new Radio I put in makes my rear speakers pop,Somewhere on this forum there was a post about some speakers at Autozone.Piledrivers I think they were called. The radio puts out 185 watts/ by 4 =45 watts. so I need some speakers that will take that much wattage.Anyone know of these speakers?

Just about any aftermarket speaker you buy will handle that. You can go to wal mart and buy decent speakers just read the box.

One more thing how easy is it to get to the rear speakers ?

I cheaped out one time and bought some Lightning Audio 3-Way 6x8's from Wal-Mart, and they turned out to be really freakin good. I think Lightning Audio is made by RocFos...not sure, tho.

And I have a hell of a lot more watts than you do pushing mine. Hell, try them out. If you don't like them (which I doubt), you can always take them back.

Just make sure to get the 3-way 6x8s, and not the 2-way. I noticed the other day that they carry both.

One more thing, if you have an mn12, you need 6x8's...NOT 6x9's.

Extremely easy. Just make sure that you use a small flat headed screw driver to pop out each of the two BOTTOM corners first. If you try to pop out the top corners first, you will snap off the little metal brackets from their cheap ass, rivet-mounted, plastic seating. And trust me, finding these things intact at the junkyard is very difficult - it seems that everyone trys to go for the top first, pretty much rendering the whole panel useless when the tabs break off. If you already broke yours, let me know. I figured out a way to fix them. Yeah...I broke mine before! :iceslolan

I thank you very much for the info. And I was going to start taking the rear speakers out by going from the top.I`m glad you told me about going to the bottom first. Thanks again.

first off u can not purchase 'decent' speakers from walmart, and if you do choose to go with walmart stay away from anything besides pioneer. As for the lightning audio, yes it is made by rockford fosgate, but on the other hand think of rockford quality. Rockford hasn't been known for deliviering decent quality these last few years. I'd recommend to stay away from any oval shaped speakers. For rear fill I'd recommend some 6.5s round pioneers will never do wrong. Hope this helps some.

btw... if your looking for a decent setup shoot me a PM i'd be more than glad to help you, if you feel independent and want to get your own stuff check out this site

6x9s fit with a little cutting for the rear speakers.

6x9s fit with a little cutting for the rear speakers.

This is something i've been wondering about... I've got a pair of pioneer 6X9's less than a year old.... How hard and how much cutting is needed to do this?? I was orginally going to unhook my rear speakers, and put the 6X9's in the back near the trunk....

I always spend a little more for good speakers I know will last, and be crystal clear. I have (had) Polk 6x8's in both my Tbird and my F250, and have never been let down by them.

That's funny, because I did - and they are not just 'decent'. Instead of posting a link to some stereo shop, or whatever, start considering the fact that these are the Thunderbird forums and not the "My Daddy Bought Me My BMW" Forums. I was speaking from experience when I recommended the Lighting Audio. Did you test out every speaker Wal-Mart has to offer in your car before coming to your conclusion? These are really good speakers at a really good price.

Mike Im behind you on that one. Unless you're building a KILLER stereo with amps and the whole bit a decent speaker will work just fine. You'd be hard pressed to be able to hear the difference. Actually my cheap little off-the-wall brand front speakers outlasted my infinity rear speakers adn i got them at the same time.

I haven't taken out the rear panels on my 93, so I don't know how much room there is behind the panel for 89-93 interiors, but on my 96, after removing the panel, you just cut away some of the plastic and it fits in no problem. I'll take pics tomorrow if you'd like.

bring them pyles back.. their complete garbage get some decent pioneers or something

I agree with Decipha. Return the Pyles and get some Pioneers, Polk Audio, even Jensens. They are all better than the Pyles. I have six (6) 6x8 Polk Audio 2-ways in my '94 Ford E150 and they sound GREAT. I have 6x8 Jensen 3-ways in my '97 Grand Marquis and they sound good as well (but not as good as the Polks). I bought the Polks for under $50 / pair.

Agreed...Pyle is pretty bad for both sound and quality. I've got 580W going into those four Lightning Audio 6x8's I mentioned before...and they sound wonderful. If you do decide to not go with the lightning audio, Pioneer is an excellent brand for pretty much anything they make (did a report on them in speech class in college - Pioneer is an amazing company). And they are inexpensive as well!

Or if you decide to stay with what you've got, that's cool too. Enjoy your Bird!

Yeah Pioneer is top of the line, way ahead of number 2... Been like that for a while too...

Yeah pioneer 6X9's are the way to go. You can get them at walmart and they work fine.

94-97 interiors are identical, so it's the same.

All you need to do is cut out all of the interior plasitc (I used a razor blade.. you can see where the blade slipped in the photos) and then just use some self tapping screws the secure the speaker to the body.

Here's the photos. The speakers are warped like that I'm guessing due to age/temperature/humidity. I installed them about 8 years ago.

Thanks 8ate8!!

A Question to anyone who would know.... My pioneer 6X9's have a depth of 2 7/8"... I think the bird depth is 3 1/2".... Will these fit shown the method above??

i'd have to say that a t-bird is just about as easy as it gets when it comes to replaceing speakers... just pop off the covers unscrew the speakers and switch the pluggs

for any one that is wondering a 6x9 in the back window is alot better than a 6x9 on the side. and if u are going to cut u might as well put it in the back window that is what i did. sounds a hell of a lot better than any side mount could compare to.

heres another idea cut both and put 4 6x9s in your car. and if anyone is thinking about putting a top notch system in their car m/a is a good cheap brand. i have been running my m/a 800 watt dual channel anm 12 in subs and farad cap for about 5 yrs and all still work great. the great thing is that in a t-bird they will not make it to loud outside of the car and ear busting on the inside.

What i'll end up dong w/ my 6x9's is running them to my trunk... they'll sound like crap on the sides
