Battery Light on Dash 93 euro Mediaman67 10-15-2006, 04:34 PM
Hi, I have a 1993 Euro 4 dr, 3.1 - I get the battery light coming on in the dash, but ONLY when I accelerate - at idle, and with foot off gas, it goes away... all accesories are off - could the Alt be overcharging the batt? the amp gauge shows it at 13.5+ at idle, and never falls below that, even at accelleration - I replaced both the Batt and the Alt 5 years ago. Car starts fine all the time, but this just started happening... again, never shows up at idle. I would think that if it was an undervolt situation, the amp meter would show lower than 13volts at idle, or drop durring acceleration, etc? Short of pulling the Alt, and having it checked, anything else it could be? Belt seems fine - tensioner is fine, both were replaced couple years back, just as PM is 5-6 years the life of the charging system for these? Thanks in advance. richtazz 10-16-2006, 10:37 PM It sounds like a bad rectifier bridge in the alternator. Mediaman67 10-16-2006, 10:46 PM today, it didn't do it at all - go figure - same kind of day, no rain - worst case, I guess if it comes back, I'll just get a replacement, or wait for it to kill the batt, and do them both... I was thinking that same though, since this is what controls the constant output, no matter what speed the armeture is traveling... anyways, thanks Related Links Enter the largest automotive community on the planet! |
