Good Day,

my 2001 Chevy Venture will not start. Everything works perfectly. all the lights, windows, automatic door, everything. When I turn the key, nothing happens. It is just quiet. I just got a new battery. It has been maintained on a regular basis. It has done this before. We will try to start it. It is totally non-responsive, and then we can go out 10 minutes later, and it will start like nothing had happened. This time it is not starting. After reading the manual, I just keep thinking it might have to do with the coded key, and perhaps it is shutting itself down. Is that possible? We are no longer under a warrantee, so we are taking our car to a qualified local mechanic that goes at least twice a year to classes in the states to keep updated on all the latest things. Unfortunately he is off island right now, and we are sitting here with a car that is on strike!!!

If you could help me or even let me know if you have heard of this problem before I would appreciate it. I have been reading and reading a lot of threads, and I have not come across one here that has mentioned the same problem.

Thank you.

A key issue usually also turns on the security light, it could be the starter or connection to the starter.

Have you tried a battery boost? You said the battery is new. How new? It is common on these batteries to have a positive terminal corroded to the point where the post falls off the battery. If the cable was not cleaned properly you may not have a good connection. Also, you may have a bad ground connection.

Good luck.

I did have the same thing with my 2001 venture when I first got it. On the message display in the dash when you turn the key does it show a picture of a lock (or similar) if so it is the key. I went through the same thing, picked up the van (new to us) and my wife's key would work but not mine. When I talked to the dealer he mentioned that sometimes when the battery is disconnected the code gets lost or change. You might just need to have your codes reprogrammed.

Have you confirmed your fuel pump is working correctly? When you turn the key "ON", you should hear the fuel pump hum a bit, pumping fuel. My 99 Venture wouldn't start, and it ended up being part of the wiring harnes that runs to the fuel pump. There's a connector in the floor behind the drivers seat that goes to the fuel pump. This connector was all corroded, causing my fuel pump to not work.
