I have a 1998 CHEVY BLAZER LS 4x4 2 door 4.3 Vortec with CSFI injection. No SES light comes on. The motor has a full tune up, new head gaskets, intake gaskets, new throttle position sensor, new engine coolant temperature sensor. The Blazer gets 10 mile per gallon around town. Is this normal? ALSO when the engine is cold, the engine starts immediately, when the engine warms up, the motor does not want to start and I must pump the gas to get it to start. I know someone must know what I speak of. PLEASE HELP.

Temp is running at 195-200? Should be getting 16-20 depending on gearing, speeds, and if AC on so thats bad - 4wd is off and the front diff/pass axle coupler disengages?. Coil could be failing but may be time for a dealer analysis ($80) - easy and will save you alot of searching cause they do have the scan tools and scopes.

Both symtoms point to a very rich condition, it should be smoking black out the pipe and have raw gas dripping/smelling out the pipe. How was it before the repairs?

Stop pumping the gas to start up the engine. This is not a carbed engine. Doing this makes it worse.

Take your truck back to where you had the engine fixed and demand they get it working properly again.

Have the fuel pressure checked.

Thanks for the help, the temperature is about 195. I have been reading about the CSFI recall to convert to MPI. I think this is the next step. What do you think?

I think you need to start listening to me and take your truck back to where the engine was installed and have them fix it.

It has a warranty and you need to wake up and see that you can use it.

Hey smart guy all the work was done myself. I appreciate the help and input but I've went over everything again. It seems to me the more people I've talked to and the Dealer say MFI So $300 smacks and will see what happens anybody made the switch let me know (LS)

are you sure you changed the coolant sensor and not coolant sender?

I'm about to make the switch to MFI on my 2000 Blazer (115,000 miles). I bought all of the parts (spider, bracket and seal kit) from GMPartsDirect for about $240 delivered. I was going to do it this weekend but I'm feeling like crap so it looks like it will have to wait until next week. I don't have any codes, but the current CSFI unit is leaking fuel in the intake after running, making it a little hard to start when it sits long enough to bleed out the fuel, but not long enough to evaporate. Fires right up every time in the morning, and after it sits for a couple of hours. It's the 5 - 30 minute restarts that are the problem. A complete ACDelco-parts tune up improved the restarts drastically, but it didn't completely solve it. I'm also getting a somewhat sloppy idle so I decided to just replace the unit. I'll post the results when I'm done. Make sure you read GM Bulletin #00-06-04-003B - (Jan 30, 2003) before you do the install because you have to plug in the new injectors in the correct order to prevent interference from the top of the upper intake.

Some pictures would be nice in case this gets to be an epidemic.
