Hope someone can help me out here. I have a 2000 Sonoma that is making a noise ( not the belt ) when I turn the steering all the way to one side or the other. This happens when I go forward or backing up. It sounds like it is coming from the power steering pump or steering box but am not sure at this point. Has anyone come across something like this before ?

Do you have power steering fluid, at the proper level? Is it power steering fluid?
Not sure, drain it and refill with something you know is power steering fluid.

First of all, don't ever hold the steering wheel all the way to either side. You are putting the system into pressure relief which is really hard on the steering system and can blow your pump if you sit there and hold it like that.

The is nothing wrong with the truck here.

You just need to realise that you are not supposed to do that.
