Do I need to purchase tensioner holding tool?sbiddle 10-13-2006, 02:52 PM This is a 2000 Accord that I'm changing the water pump and timing belt on. The instructions call for a holding tool (p/n 14540-P8A-A01) that holds the tensioner clamped I think until it's installed with the new belt. Is there a workaround for this? I don't want to have to buy a special tool to use once. All replies and comments welcome! AccordCodger 10-13-2006, 10:33 PM I'm not sure if you can improvise. But Autozone willl, I believe, loan you special tools free - and that miught be one of them. lorunner 10-14-2006, 11:31 AM Is this a V-6 ? there is a piece that holds the tensioner compressed that is needed to put the belt back on. Dunno if autozone would have that i think its a dealer item only. sbiddle 10-16-2006, 02:27 PM Yes, this is the V-6 engine. No, Autozone doesn't have this tool. Has anyone made a tool to do this? Any ideas on how to hold the tensioner in place while putting on the belt? Someone here must have done this job before...right? lorunner 10-17-2006, 08:05 PM the tensioner is spring loaded. There is an acces bolt in the rear of it that needs to be removed. Than with a thin screwdriver you need to unwind the tension and than place the tool over the tensioner to keep the piston from coming back out. you can probably order one from honda. Can't imagine it being to expensive. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
