idles killing meastrikrace 10-13-2006, 11:04 AM Ok, i've posted before saying that my idle dies on me. well, i re-did all the vacuum lines and timed it "right", but the distributor is all the way to the maximum it can be adjusted, and i didn't think it was suppossed to be this way. also i can keep it running if i keep my foot on the gas a little bit, but the longer i keep it going to more and more it wants to die. the engine starts bobbing while im holding the throttle in the same position, so i let off the gas and it drops quick. any help? anyone else ever had this problem? Capecoral240 10-13-2006, 11:08 AM I think every 240 owner has has this problem.. Mine when you come to a stop it wil idle around 400-500rmp but after i complet stop it goes back up to 1000rmp or normal idle astrikrace 10-13-2006, 11:12 AM im just tryin to get mine to stay on. AWDSR20 10-13-2006, 07:20 PM check the MAF check the fuel pump how is the voltage? http://www.ka-t.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=15142 here u go read on my freind... slideways... 10-13-2006, 07:53 PM has your timing chain ever been replaced? have you ever messed with it? if you accelerate hard from say 30mph in 5th gear does your motor knock? nissan_240sx 10-13-2006, 11:03 PM Make sure you put your timing chain on correctly, the first cam lobes should be facing outwards at identical height. If you want you could take a pic of the cam, chain, etc with the valve cover off S13Driftfiend 10-13-2006, 11:05 PM check the MAF check the fuel pump how is the voltage? http://www.ka-t.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=15142 here u go read on my freind... 240sx bible = :worshippy :boink: super_hicas 10-15-2006, 03:19 AM I Had The Same Prob. I Just Changed The Idle. Its Worked So Far. Just Tighten Your Throtle Cable. astrikrace 10-15-2006, 07:04 PM When I adjusted my timing or when i timed it, i had to turn the distr all the way towards the firewall. is this correct? nissan_240sx 10-15-2006, 08:24 PM It should be in the middle somewhere.. your too advance in timing, hows the car run? astrikrace 10-16-2006, 03:50 PM hows the car run? That's the thing. it doesn't run. it won't stay on long enough for me to get out of the driveway. Anyone know where i can just get another stock ka. maybe shipping won't be too bad from somebody. nissan_240sx 10-17-2006, 07:27 AM If I lived near you I'd help you out, it's probably some minor problem you got there.. good luck man astrikrace 10-17-2006, 11:20 AM ok i guess it is timed wrong becuase i didn't let the car warm up first becuase it won't stay on long enough to get warm. i did touch the timing chain when i replaced my head gasket. i couldn't figure out how to set tdc so i tried my best. i figured it was right so maybe the cams are off? but it ran ok not great before i replaced my water pump. only then it started dieing this bad. slideways... 10-17-2006, 06:02 PM i knew it. have someone reset your timing chain who knows how. its off. trust me. im not sure why you even set it at TDC, seeing as you could just index the gears and leave it all as is. but id bet you set it at TDC on the wrong stroke. remember, cars are 4 stroke engines. well, either that or its just a few teeth off. astrikrace 10-17-2006, 09:02 PM ok when i did it, i pulled the head and it was at the top dead center or right efter it. The only refference i had was the install for the umm jim wolf cams. i think that was it. anyways the cams were pointing away fromt he block. so i figured ok TDC of the compression stroke. It might be a couple teeth off. anyone know where i can find a suitable guide for reseting my cams/etc. to the real TDC. also i didn't see two mating links on my chain, is it possible there is only one?well anyhting will help, thank you guys! astrikrace 10-17-2006, 09:06 PM ohh, also when i did the head gasket, i knew i was unsure about the TDC thing so i marked the sh*t out of almost everything that has to do with both timing chains with whiteout. when i put it back together i made sure the whiteout lined up but it seemed like ther was some slack in the upper timing chain. i didn't think that was good but i thought that little plastic tensioner thingy would fix it once it got some oil. anyways. usar89b 10-19-2006, 09:52 PM Buy a Haynes manual, Chiltons manual, or search for a write up. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
