Guys have a ? I have at 2001 silverado 4.8 2W the truck runs fine but notice that it's burning oil every so often. I heard that is nornal and doesn't affect your horse power is everybody experiencing the same on your trucks? maxwedge 10-12-2006, 05:26 PM How many miles to a quart? Rmbodie 10-13-2006, 05:58 AM If your engine has the noticable pistonslap noise when cold start up . That could account for the consumpsion . My T/A with LS1 has it in the cold months and uses a quart in a month (800-900miles). But in the summer I don't use any noticable amount between changes . Just a thought . Rob GMMerlin 10-13-2006, 06:44 AM All engines require oil to lubricate and protect the load bearing and internal moving parts from wear including cylinder walls, pistons and piston rings. When a piston moves down its cylinder, a thin film of oil is left on the cylinder wall. During the power stroke, part of this oil layer is consumed in the combustion process. As a result, varying rates of oil consumption are accepted as normal in all engines. Excessive oil consumption, not due to leaks, is the use of 1 L (1 qt) or more of engine oil within 3 200 kilometers (2,000 miles). masapell 10-13-2006, 01:20 PM I would like to add that if you are towing, that will up the oil usage a little too.
