Random pictures (56k No-no)defiancy 10-12-2006, 03:55 PM I'm going to post some cool pictures up here that you guys have probably never really seen. I have a grip of pictures from when I was in Afghanistan and maybe some of you are interested to see what it is like there. I have a few hundred pictures so I'll only post a few and if people want me to post up some more I will. I also encourage other people to post up pictures of unique things (Only work safe pictures) that they may have documented in their life and might think people would want to see. http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b229/defiancy3/IMG_0032.jpg This picture is me infront of a minefield. That minefield is actually on our base, they were all over the place. http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b229/defiancy3/2004_1013Afghanistan040027.jpg This is a picture when I was flying(I used to work with a helicopter squadron and sometimes man the machine guns on the side of the helicopter), this is a taliban insurgent that they captured and are transporting back to our base to me interrogated. By they I mean the Delta Force bubbas in the picture. http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b229/defiancy3/PICT0124.jpg Me and Canadian bombsquad bubba. http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b229/defiancy3/IMG_1428.jpg Christmas in Afghanistan, and our Snowman was standing guard. http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b229/defiancy3/PICT0007.jpg Nice shot of a road in afghanistan and the mountains in the back. This was on one of many humanitarian aid missions. We got real nervous in this area because of the high walls and actually had to walk most of the way through this area for security. http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b229/defiancy3/PICT0021.jpg This is some of the children. We used to bring candy with us on our convoys and throw it to the children. http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b229/defiancy3/PICT0015.jpg We are getting ready to unload the truck. The truck is full of hygiene supplies (Which they don't really use) And lots of clothing and U.S. propaganda leaflets. If people want to see more pictures I can post them up if the intrest is there. Thor06 10-12-2006, 04:12 PM Damn, that is pretty interesting. I had no idea you were over there. that bomb suit is hardcore as hell, would that save him if something blew up in his face? I will have to look for something interesting to put up.... defiancy 10-12-2006, 04:21 PM Damn, that is pretty interesting. I had no idea you were over there. that bomb suit is hardcore as hell, would that save him if something blew up in his face? I will have to look for something interesting to put up.... yeah, I was in Iraq about a year before I was in Afghanistan, I have pictures from out there as well just not that many, and most of those are not digital. Well, it depends on what kind of explosive. They had those out there because the Canadians did alot of mine clearing because the russians left behind a crap load of mines when they left the base we were at in the 70's or whenever they left. But to answer your question, if he stepped on an anti-personal mine (A small yield mine) Yes it would probably save his life, he might be short one leg but he would be alive. But it would say fully shield him from a gernade to the point where he would only suffer minor injuries. But if he was to step on an anti-tank mine, he would still be a pink mist. I like that picture because it's cool to see the Canadians out doing stuff. You don't hear of the Canadians doing much, but when I saw them out there I had to get a picture. And I figure we have some canadian members so they would get a kick out of that ;) L-Spec 10-12-2006, 04:59 PM Wow, thanks for sharing! Bahaha yes Canadians, it is a rare sight to see Canadians doing something :P Ah shit, I hope Canada doesn't send me out there now :( defiancy 10-12-2006, 05:09 PM Wow, thanks for sharing! Bahaha yes Canadians, it is a rare sight to see Canadians doing something :P Ah shit, I hope Canada doesn't send me out there now :( Hehe, when I meant it's a rare thing you see canadians doing something. I was speaking more of their military operation abroad. But those pesky neighbors to the north are kinda lazy ;) Killa_DSM 10-12-2006, 05:09 PM Wow very interesting! Thanks for sharing with use, and keep them comming! ned032002 10-12-2006, 05:20 PM That's an awesome bomb suit, and deff keep the pics coming there very interesting. steviek 10-12-2006, 05:54 PM Hey we can't fight anyone we don't got no military or equipment. Shit our game plan is if anyone invades we just get them drunk. Its top secret but Ill let you in on a little secret; Irish invade: stock up on whiskey Japs: Socki it to me American's: Malt liquor if there from the north bourbon if there from the south Mexicans: just wait until winter Russians: Vodka we'll either drink them to death or drink with em till they like us and leave us alone. Thor06 10-12-2006, 06:01 PM  But you guys wont get any invaders because you dont piss anyone off. Did you guys hear about North Korea? I am going to have a fun time this coming summer because in the next couple years a big ass hole is going to open in the earth and suck everything into it. Blackcrow64 10-12-2006, 10:04 PM  But you guys wont get any invaders because you dont piss anyone off. Did you guys hear about North Korea? I am going to have a fun time this coming summer because in the next couple years a big ass hole is going to open in the earth and suck everything into it. I have been following the North Korea story pretty closely. If they in fact did produce a nuke, its still only an estimated 4 or 5 kiliton. Back when... Uh... I think it was Iran tested their nuke it was 15 kiliton. That being said, I think we can safely assume the US has some crazy powerful nuke that would split the planet in half. lol I just hope the US lays off the pressuing slightly since NK see the pressure as "an act of war." :( I don't think we (the world) is ready for a nuclear war yet. The radiation poisoning would definetly wipe out majority of the planet. **EDIT** Oh yeah, BTW I love the pictures. Lets see some more. One of my best friends was over in Iraq for the last year or so and now he is in Kuiwait. 2of9 10-12-2006, 10:15 PM dude, N.K. dont even know what they're doing for real. its just like a child's play game. 2of9 10-12-2006, 10:16 PM Hey cool pics though man, 1000% fully support you guys over there! defiancy 10-12-2006, 10:22 PM Damn, that is pretty interesting. I had no idea you were over there. that bomb suit is hardcore as hell, would that save him if something blew up in his face? I will have to look for something interesting to put up.... I just realized what you said in this. I'm not actually over there at the moment lol. These are just pictures from when I was over there. I was bored and thought you guys would like to see what it was like. Shit, I'm out of the military now. But I've only been out about four months. These pictures are from 04 when I was there. I'll post some more here soon. Talon69 10-12-2006, 10:23 PM That is awsome man!!! I would really love to see more pictures!!! Post like a 100 :) l_eclipse_l 10-12-2006, 10:37 PM :1: for more pics blk_srt 10-12-2006, 10:49 PM Have you ever watched "Full Metal Jacket"? defiancy 10-12-2006, 10:51 PM Have you ever watched "Full Metal Jacket"? Own the movie. blk_srt 10-12-2006, 10:53 PM this may be a dumb question but is boot camp anything like that. I heard they cant swear at you or hit you or anything that makes full metal jacket fun defiancy 10-12-2006, 11:04 PM http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b229/defiancy3/MazirESharifmkt.jpg This is the downtown market in Kabul, Afgh. http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b229/defiancy3/3rdBn6thMarRIP.jpg This is us dropping off some of the grunts. http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b229/defiancy3/2004_1013Afghanistan040045.jpg This is the type of helicopter that I worked with. My swuadron was a bunch of these guys. It's just a heavy lift helicopter, that helicopter can lift about 30,000 lbs and is one of the fastest helicopters in the world. http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b229/defiancy3/2003_1126nightops0016.jpg This is the gun on the back of that helicopter. There are two more, one on each side as well. http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b229/defiancy3/IMG_0040.jpg Some shitty ass plane the russians left behind. And where did they leave it? Right in the middle of a mine field. http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b229/defiancy3/IMG_1061.jpg We used to make home made wine out there. And here we are enjoying the "fruits" of our labor. And we are wearing these russian hats and saluting like a Comrade. I'm the goofy one on the far left. EDMUND65 10-12-2006, 11:06 PM I thought these pix were pretty good... http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a285/crazydriver7686/untitled4.jpg (http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a285/crazydriver7686/untitled4.jpg) http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a285/crazydriver7686/untitled.jpg (http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a285/crazydriver7686/untitled.jpg) http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a285/crazydriver7686/untitled3.jpg (http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a285/crazydriver7686/untitled3.jpg) http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a285/crazydriver7686/untitled2-1.jpg (http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a285/crazydriver7686/untitled2-1.jpg) defiancy 10-12-2006, 11:08 PM this may be a dumb question but is boot camp anything like that. I heard they cant swear at you or hit you or anything that makes full metal jacket fun Depends. It's very similar to that in intensity. But yes they can cuss and cuss at you and talk trash to you like they do in the movie. It's not quite as severe as they are in the movie, but like I said it's still as intense as it was there. The hitting thing is a tough question. They don't out right punch you in the stomach like they do there. But they definately put their hands on you and inflict pain. They are just better at hidding it now. An example is: When we used to be marching they used to puch us hard as fuck in the back of our hands and in our legs and say that they were "correcting our position" That was just outside, when we were in our baracks they would usually be a little more liberal inside there. And if they needed to get to physical they usually called you into a seperate room. That way if it ever comes under investigation it's one recruits word against two or three D.I.'s instead of 83 recruits against three D.I.'s. It was definately the most intense shit of my entire life. And alot of guys loose about 40-50lbs in boot camp in three months. The level of activity is off the charts, you are always moving and doing something physical. I could spend two years in the gym and not come being close to the same shape endurance wise as I was in boot camp. blk_srt 10-12-2006, 11:14 PM Did you have any cool marching chants for example " I dont know but I've been told eskimo pussy is mighty cold"? Thor06 10-12-2006, 11:15 PM Damn... almost makes me want to see if I can just pay to go to bootcamp and not be in the army/marines/etc. defiancy 10-12-2006, 11:18 PM Did you have any cool marching chants for example " I dont know but I've been told eskimo pussy is mighty cold"? Haha. Yeah, It wasn't anything like that. Because I went to boot camp before Sept 11 we weren't in training during wartime. But as far as running we had some good ones, but the best ones were when you were on a march. We used to do like 5-10 marches in full gear, like 100+lbs on your back plus your weapon. The DI's used to do this thing kinda like cadence(marching chants) But it's call sing song. He sings it, and you repeat the song. I'll think if I can remember any, It's been a while. blk_srt 10-12-2006, 11:18 PM I actually was thinking that same thing defiancy 10-12-2006, 11:20 PM Coming out of boot camp, I probably could have gone out for long 5 or six mile run in the morning and then go out and do a 10 mile march, and then come back get slayed(this is hard to explain, kinda like if you mess up in football and the coach punishes you by making you do exercises. Kinda like that but about 10 times worse) And maybe do some martial arts training, before the day was over. Not to mentioned all the walking you do from place to place. blk_srt 10-12-2006, 11:24 PM I could use that exercise. Actually just someone to push me and I'm to cheap for a personal trainer defiancy 10-12-2006, 11:29 PM I could use that exercise. Actually just someone to push me and I'm to cheap for a personal trainer I think if you get a membership at Balley or 24hr fitness, I think you can make appointments with personal trainers? I don't know if it costs extra or not. blk_srt 10-12-2006, 11:37 PM I dont think there is a balley within 100 miles of me lol. Closest thing I have is the YMCA and anytime fitness. I can use the weight room at my college for free anytime but with no one pushing me I get lazy. the any time fitness has a PT but he works on the side so its like $400 to join for the year plus what ever he charges so I said screw that defiancy 10-12-2006, 11:38 PM I dont think there is a balley within 100 miles of me lol. Closest thing I have is the YMCA and anytime fitness. I can use the weight room at my college for free anytime but with no one pushing me I get lazy Hehe, that's when you need a friend like me, who will light the fire under your ass. blk_srt 10-12-2006, 11:43 PM totally. Want to fly out to Minnesota for a while lol Blackcrow64 10-12-2006, 11:44 PM I'm liking the pictures... The blue angels are awesome. defiancy 10-12-2006, 11:47 PM I'm liking the pictures... The blue angels are awesome. Funny that he posted those. The Miramar airshow is this weekend. And they are going to be there. Miramar airshow is the best airshow in the world. I also used to be stationed at Pensacola, FL home of the blue angels and I used to get to see them practice every week. hehe. Thor06 10-13-2006, 12:06 AM I always admired the Blue Angels.... when I was a kid I wanted to be a pilot. I have a picture I would like to share, its one from my buddy's grad party. Its my favorite picture in the world. Sorry if its too big, I have a hard time with pic size now that I have this higher resolution wide screen display. http://img1.putfile.com/thumb/10/28500020431.jpg (http://www.putfile.com/pic.php?img=3666992) You'll have to click on it, its way better when its bigger. david-b 10-13-2006, 01:01 AM I was pretty much signed up for the National Guard before 9/11. I was so looking forward to the bootcamp. I like intense shit like that. I thought (and still think), that I need something like that to get me where I want to be in life. It looks so much fun. I backed out after 9/11 for a little while. I still want to sign up. Just learned the other night one of my close friends from about 1 year ago signed up and just came back from boot camp. Just want to thank you for doing what you did! Thor06 10-13-2006, 01:13 AM Yeah, word up. I think its righteous as hell for someone to put their life on the line like that. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
