Clanking Noise at the end of the turn when parking on a tight parking stall

Hi!!! I have this problem on my 97 Blazer 4 WD LS 4.3L a clanking sound would appear everytime I park on a tight parking stall at the very end of the steering manuever before coming to a full stop a sound would appear together with a jerk. I was told that it maybe my steering pump or the cv joints or the steering stopper. I already went to a dealer and off course they didn't found any problem. The truck run smooth when I'm cruising.

The next problem that I have is this knocking/pinging noise in the engine, on idle sound is minimal but when you rev up on the gas its really noisy. I thought it was the belt so I bought a new belt, but unfortunately noise still there. I checked all the pulleys and fan cluth for tightness and they were tight and no whobbling or any loose parts. I just put in a new alternator so I know its not it. Sprayed the belt with belt dressing but the problem still exist. All pulleys are tight and looks like in good condition. A/C compressor works just fine, but I suspect maybe one of the bearing is worn out on one of the pulleys (compressor, tensioner, water pump or maybe the steering pump??? maybe, no clue). Or maybe a wrong gas. I'm in the military and station here in Italy we buy gas outside so its hard to know if the gas station here are distributing the right octane or not. This noise annoys me more than my wife does stress me out so much, please need some advise. I was reading to some of the treads and fram oil filter problem was mentioned. The noise started when I replaced my AC delco filter with the fram filter that they sell at the Navy Exchange, it might also be the filter. :screwy:

Don't know about the engine noise, but I had a "clunk" when the wheels were turned and I'd change direction (especially when parking or backing out of a parking spot). After replacing numerous parts, I noticed welded medal pieces on the front and back side of the lower control arms that had some shine to them. With both wheels off the ground, I had someone turn the steering wheel all the way to one side, then grabbed one of the tires and was able to make contact between the steering knuckle and lower control arm. I replaced the idler arm and the lower and upper control arm bushings. I haven't noticed the "clunk" since.

Goog Luck!

No, I don't have any pictures of it. If you look at the lower control arm, you'll see a small piece of round stock welded to the front and back side. They look out of place since they don't really serve any function. You can't miss them.

Good Luck!!

Lower ball joints would be a good place to look so grease them well with the front end unloaded (jacked up) so grease gets in the mating surface of the joint and see if thats it. Blazers also have noise from A-arm bushings, calipers shifting due to worn slide bolts or again not graesed, CV axles (look at ripped boots and grease thrown off), sway bar bushings, bad shock mount or shock, torsion bars binding or rear pivots, etc - lots of things to check.

As for the noise - is the oil pressure lower than 20psi at idle and does it go up to over 40 with increased throttle? Running 5w-30 oil? Is the noise at startup or always? 4.3s have a known lower intake leaking problem and lifter tap is often the first sign so watch the coolant overflow for fluid drop and look carefully along the intake up front and along the valve cover seam with the intake for an seepage. Many posts on that.

Thanks Muddog, I have found the noise, it was coming from the tensioner pulley. I sprayed it with W-40 and noise was gone. I have ordered also a replacement tensioner assembly to replace it, I'm just waiting for the parts and also I am going to change the belt cause the belt has cracks on it by its groove.
