and i was wondering what he should look for in terms of checking to make sure its not a lemon. the vin is YS3DD55H412038721. the seller is a used car dealer and they are asking $5,000. seems a little low, other than that the car seems great im just suspicius of anything GM.

its a '01 9-3 four door base.

how do i look up the vehicles history? seems like some of the people on this board has acces to some sort of database, do you guys work at a dealer?

here is the warranty report from saab. by the way, i am a saab technician.
things to look for are oil leaks, pcv system update (you need to get it done-period), it has had the idm campaign done already, so you dont need that.

its people like you that make automotiveforums.com the best car message board on the web, period. thanks for the official report, over on the chev blazer forum people publish the dealer codes so you can call chev and pose as a dealer and get free unlock codes and whatnot that a dealer would try to charge 60 for.

how much does the pvc update cost and can i do it myself? im pretty handy in a car so as long as i dont need special tools i should be able to handle it. i forgot to mention the car has about 120,000 miles on it.

hes also looking at a '99 9-5 (as per my advice, as per this forums advice), the vin is YS3ED48E9X3000579, only 81,ooo miles and only asking 5,900. downside is its in jamaica queens, ny. are the autos more durable or the manuals for a 99?

pcv update is $57 at my shop. without the instructions, it could be a bit tricky.

as for the 99 9-5, i typically dont see too many worth buying. i think it is overpriced for sure. i guarantee that it needs a few thousand in repairs to get it to where you would be proud to drive it. it is probably leaking oil like a seive, needs a throttle body, turbo, electrical issues (random), sid display pixels all messed up, acc issues ($$$$), the heater boxes on those were shaky. the part is only $400 but the labor is a couple grand. the autos are definitely more reliable, but has it been taken care of and flushed at least once by now?? i will look up the vin info when i get a chance.

was it the 99 9-3s that were suposed to be better? i read somewhere on this board that 99 and previous years were more durable than 2000 +
