Blazer Electrical Leak

My father has an electrical leak on his Blazer... I believe it is a 2000? V6. His battery went dead at the airport. He took it back to Walmart and they did an electrical check... They told him he had a parasitic electrical leak... He is a Mechanical engineer and did some testing on his own and found that it was drawing significant current when the vehicle was off...

Is there anything common on a Blazer that can fail and cause a short?

Monitor the current drain and pull one fuse at a time to see when the draw stops.

Then you will have isolated the circuit.

Well I don't know about your Dad but I went through this awhile back but it did not take me long to find. It was the wires to my kicker in the back had got grounded against each other when I loaded a fender in there and had to push a few things around and let the seats down. Killed one battery,found the problem then had to replace the alternator. Does the pos cable spark a lot when you hook it up. I know all lights are suppose to go out after 20 mins but one guy I knew with a Chevy PU '98 the light under the hood was not going off and it was killing his battery only if he was not driving it like over the week end.

As BlazerLT said you need to start unpluging.
How many amps is it pulling?
Also wait about 10-20 minutes after key off for all PCM to power down before testing.
Any add on or aftermarket stuff on it?
Raidos, dome light switches, cig lighters,alternators,auto head lights and computers and many things can be drawing to many amps.

OK, thanks, I will report the ideas to my father. Found that the blazer is a 1999. I believe he did pull one of the fuses and the power did stop draining... I will get more details....

As the others have stated there are many things that can cause a battery to go dead. I just found one today. After months of trying to find without success a cause on my 2000 Blazer I tried to use jumper cables to start it. I first noticed it drew a large amount of power, sparks whem hooking up the jumper cable. I also heard a ticking noise near the drivers side fender. On inspection I found the ABS system was cycling. The truck would not go and the cables started to get rather warm. I dissconnected the jumper cables and took the motor plug aff the ABS system. I re-connected the jumper cables and the truck started. NOw all I have to do is find out why the ABS system is turning on.
This may not be your problem,. but is one of many you should check out.
