Light "squeel" in steering wheeladgjqetuo 10-05-2006, 11:43 AM I don't think this is a big problem, but I thought i'd mention it anyway. Whenever I move the steering wheel (either left or right) it produces a slight and very low "squeeling" sound while turning. "squeel" is the best word I can think for it...it's not like an anoying high pitch squeel or anything just like a soft "weeeeeeee woo..... weeeeeee woo" sound as the steering wheel is moving. Sorry if I can't be more descriptive... has anyone else expeienced this problem before? klieu 10-05-2006, 12:42 PM sound like low steering fluid, fill it up, if it still make noise, I think, steering pump alblogg 10-05-2006, 01:54 PM I don't think this is a big problem, but I thought i'd mention it anyway. Check your fluid level and see if it is low if it is top it off it will not take much unless it is bone dry and by the way you are talking I don't think it is. After you fill it up start your car and turn your wheel left to lock then right to lock, do this two or three times and recheck your fluid for air bubbles or foam if present there was air in the system and this may fix your problem. corning_d3 10-05-2006, 02:09 PM Is the squeel coming from the wheel itself, or under the hood? adgjqetuo 10-05-2006, 03:55 PM I checked the fluid before and it appeared to be at the right level, but i'll check it again. Since my school only lets you have one car on campus, I chose my jeep (figured it would be more reliable :dunno:)...but when I go home this weekend i'll double check it again and get back to you guys. Also to answer another question raised, the sound sounds like it's coming from the crease between the steering wheel and the dash, not from under the hood...but then again just because thats what it sounds like, doesn't mean thats where it is... Philoushka 10-08-2006, 01:01 AM I have got the same symptoms in my 99 Malibu. It's nothing to do with steering fluid. It's coming right in the steering column. Almost a light grinding / friction sound when you turn the wheel. If anyone can help, I'd also appreciate it. alblogg 10-08-2006, 10:47 AM Sorry I miss understood in the fist posts. It could be the bearing it the steering column. I know on some of the older models GM had a fit with these on the tilt wheels but the bearings went out and your S-wheel would wobble like it was going to fall off. I am not sure what sort of bearings they are using now but if you can pin point it you may can get to it through the multi switch and that way you are not around the air bag. While you are in there check your multi switch it might be what's doin' the weee woooo. corning_d3 10-08-2006, 09:51 PM I'm not sure, but there may be slip rings behind the wheel that contact some brass terminals(usually for the horn). If these get dry, they can squeal. Usually a Q-tip and some petroleum jelly will fix it. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
