Need help!

I have a 1992 Buick Skylark which is really in great condition yet, only 90,000 original miles. Just developed a BIG problem I don't know how to deal with.

When my son pulled the release bar under the dash to open the hood, the cable BROKE!

My husband suggest feeding a wire under the hood and trying to pull the hood latch open that way. But we have no idea just where the hood latch is and what direction it needs to be pushed in order to open.

Can anyone tell me where I can view the inside of a '92 under the hood online? Or better yet, can anyone tell me where that latch is and what direction to work a wire.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as my son really needs to use this car for school and work and we have to get this hood opened!

Thank much for any and all help.

Judy

If the cable broke near the release lever, use pliers or vise-grips to pull on the broken cable. Once the hood is open, replace the cable and spray some lube on the latch.

Thanks. I'll have him check it out just as soon as he gets home. I sure hope the cable is still near enough to pull it with a pliers.
Appreciate your help.

I have an older GM vehicle, different make and model. The handle for the hood release mechanism broke long ago. Like the other person said, I used a pair of vice-grips for a long time, then the cable broke.

I removed the grill, so I could see where the cable hooked to the hood-release mechanism. On some models that mechanism is easy to get at, some it isn't.

I tied a piece of heavy duty string to the mechanism and let it hang down. Yeah, I have to lay down under the front of the vehicle and pull the string, to open the hood, no big deal.

I saw a universal cable release kit, at the auto store, but I thought it was a little pricey. The string was free.
