Hi all,

Ive got a vaux cavalier 1.6ls 1995 and its has started to pink about 9 months ago.

Its really weird if I run the car with the "ron" slected to 95 and put 95 octain unleaded fuel in it pinks when the engine gets warm..Doesnt do it whaen its cold.

Now if I turn the "ron" to 91 and put 95 octain unleaded in its fine..but it used to run for years on 95 setting..

Ive just mot'ed the car and its passed..so as regards to emissions.and i put the "ron" to 95 for the test..

Ive done so far serviced the car and replaced the temp sensor on it to see if it was out to do with that.but nothing.

Im thinking it could be either the knock sensor or lambda but im unsure which to try..

I really hope someone can throw some light my way,,the car has 76k on the clock for reference

Thanks
craig

Vaux=Vauxhall or maybe for you opel :)

And RON is Research Octane Number .

It alows you to use different rated octane fuels,,eg lrp lead relacement fuel is 91 ron and unleaded fuel is 95 ron..in uk anyway:)

I never even knew there was such thing as a Vauxhall cavalier, you learn something new everyday lol

Also so what does ''pink'' mean? sorry for the questions but I have never heard these terms before.

caw, where are you from?
also, what does it mean when a car "pinks"?
also again, are you saying your car has a switch for you to select the fuel grade you just put in??

I would say try posting in one of these forums since no one here i'm sure has never delt with this car. http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=765

Im from the uk and what i mean by pinking is more knocking..yo know like if your timming isnt set right and the engine rattles under load, like taping..well that.

Only my timing cant be adjusted as its controlled by the ecu..:frown:

I thought you id try our us friends as im getting no luck over here on our forums..:)

ok so if its knocking then one of your lifters may need adjusting, also could be your timing chain.

Yeah im not sure if it has a timimg chain,,its got a timming belt..which ive took of and re-timed to make sure its not a tooth out..

Its been taping at my head for so long now,,,it must be to do with the timing i know that..but maybe more to do with a sensor..

lol nice emote. All honesty the only reason I know is because I look at stuff for cavaliers all the time, and on ebay they have turn signals and switches and stuff like that for the Vaux Cavalier, and it looked completely diff from US cavs... never actually saw one tho :)

Hey do you have MOT test,,the yearly test for the road...Is the MOT test the same thing as like an emisson test?

Well they do the emissions on it,,they test the whole car every year like the tyres, bushes, emmissions, basicly everythin and if it fails you have to get them sorted out...

Hmm I have never done that kind of test where they test everything, so I would say no in the US we dont have that. (at least in IL we dont :))

Lucky...we have to have our cars tested every 12 months...it cost a lot and if its not road worthy now its not allowed to leave the garage till its been fixed..:banghead:

Well im going to change the lambds sensor and see how that goes...:)
