OK Need some major help on this one. I have a 1995 C1500 350 automatic. The speedo, tach , and odometer have gone dead and nobody seems to know what is going on. I have changed the speed sensor in the transmission. Helped for a while then went out again. Took it to the shop and they said try changing the gauge cluster. Changed it and nothin happened. Oh and on top of it all the tranny will not shift. Only have 2nd and 3rd. 2nd only when I downshift into 2. Have a theory about the VSSB. Does anyone have any experience with this or know anything about it. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Signed Stuck in 2nd in KC.

I have a '88 4X4 and the speedo has not worked in it for a while. I know it is the speed sensor on the transfer case just don't drive it enough to matter if it works or not. What I am getting to back when I was researching this because my speedo would go crazy and my brake lite would blink a code I think it was 13 not sure I talked to a chevy man that sounded like he knew his stuff. He said there was a sensor on the trans or tranfer case and another one under the dash I think above your left foot. The one outside is high in $$ but I think the inside one is higher.

Appreciate last post but the 88 is totally different than the 95 I replaced the sensor in the tranny. There is no sensor near foot and I wouldn't mind about the speedo and tach but the tranny isn't shifting and that is a very bad thing since this is a daily driven vehicle.

The book list a auto trans downshift sensor for your truck runs about $6 they don't have a picture of it.

Check all fuses and relays....

Check the ignition switch....My brother's 96 Tahoe did very similar things... Some parts of the instrument cluster go out and the transmission only runs in 3rd gear. There are multiple contacts in the ignition switch and one of those goes bad which does not supply power to some parts of the cluster AND the transmission solenoids. If you can find the fuse that supplies the transmission power, see if you are getting +12v. If not, check your ignition switch. Is the problem intermittent....sometimes you start it and it is ok? His was.

Sure sounds like an ignition switch/lack of 12V to the tranny

Try changing the speed sensor buffer its a small white box inside the dash u will need to take out the glove compartment and u can find it it converts the signal that the speed sensor sends into a signal the cluster can use. my 1993 did the same thing
