trunk button ?????JStumpalump150 09-28-2006, 09:59 PM is there a button on the inside of the car that i can push to open the trunk of my car??? cuz if there is i have not found it and it is a real pain in the ass everytime i need to open my trunk so my friends can get stuff or put stuff in it i have to turn off the car and push the button on my remote. i think its really stupid if there is not a button cuz i have never seen a car where there was not a way to open the trunk without turning off the car until now. the main reason i am asking this now is cuz i pulled up to a curb today and went to open the trunk so my girlfriend could put her stuff in it and someone pulled up next to me and asked if my car had broken down and i just said "no i just had to open the trunk" and that is when i realized my trunk is stupid Lances133 09-28-2006, 10:12 PM lol thats a pretty funny story but sorry buddy, your remote and key "IS THE ONLY WAY MY SON!" - Same with my car and my girls 01 sunfire. JStumpalump150 09-28-2006, 10:22 PM well i think thats pretty dumb, and i also fould an unused plug under the liner on the left side of the trunk that leads to the trunk popper thing, i wounder if i can make it go to the cabin and make a button to open the trunk, i will get pics up so you can see what im talking about Lances133 09-28-2006, 10:30 PM Maybe you could pull a set up out of a Cavalier that does. My 96 2.2 had a trunk release lever by the left side of the driver seat. JStumpalump150 09-28-2006, 10:35 PM here is what i found when i was changing a tail light this is connected to the trunk release box and is the exact same as the one in the second picture that is actualy connected to the lock on the trunk http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f268/JStumpalump150/CellPhonepics070.jpg this is the trunk lid from the inside connected to the lock http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f268/JStumpalump150/CellPhonepics071.jpg and this is where they all are connected http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f268/JStumpalump150/CellPhonepics072.jpg so can i make it work with a button in the cabin??? JStumpalump150 09-28-2006, 10:52 PM i found this but i only want the wire and button, anyone know where to get the wire and button? http://www.autotoys.com/x/cust/product.php?productid=547&cat=107&page=1 jakegday 09-28-2006, 11:02 PM radio shack maybe, walmart has wire, they may have buttons by the toggle switches, you could also just get another key and keep it in your car somewhere so you can just grab it real quick and get out and open the trunk, you'd still have to get out, but you wouldnt have to shut your engine off for 20 seconds only to start it right back up JStumpalump150 09-28-2006, 11:06 PM i just realized the connector is the exact same as the ones used on the stock speakers(which i just happen to have lying around) so i think i can connect the speaker connector to the un used one in the trunk and run cable to the cabin and put a button on the end, ill try this tomorrow if i can and let you guys know what happens Lances133 09-29-2006, 02:13 AM Nice man, I wouldn't mind having that either. my99cavy 09-29-2006, 02:18 PM Yup it is very stupid that there is no button on the inside of the car to pop the trunk. Also I dont know about you guy but I cant pop my trunk unless the car is shut off, so I dont know if that popper will work :dunno:. JStumpalump150 09-29-2006, 03:30 PM remote does not work but the button on the inside might cuz i think when the car is on it turns off all signal from the remote cuz i cant lock my doors with the remote while its on either(not that i need to, i just thought i would try it once) my99cavy 09-29-2006, 03:34 PM Well then all I can say is hook it up and try it out. be sure to let us know if that actually works because then I am definatley going to do it. Lances133 09-29-2006, 03:54 PM ^ x2 Cavalier2000 09-29-2006, 04:31 PM i am lost what did i miss my99cavy 09-29-2006, 06:14 PM i am lost what did i missWell if you would read the thread then you would know. Stumpalump is going to be installing a button to unlock and pop his trunk from in the car seeing how his doesnt have one. does that help ya out at all little buddy? lol Cavalier2000 09-29-2006, 09:37 PM yea i got that but the linky thing didn't work for me... damn firefox my99cavy 09-30-2006, 11:11 AM ^haha sucks for you but all the link is to a kit to install a pop button on the inside. NovaRally77 09-30-2006, 11:36 AM yea i got that but the linky thing didn't work for me... damn firefox The link worked for me and IMO Firefox is the greatest thing since the internet! Much better than IE, but then again, I'm a geek like that. Ok so back to topic: JStump, heres what I did. I bought my car and it did not come with a remote. It has the power trunk release but no remote, and no way to get the trunk open from inside the car (short of climbing thru the trunk to engage the saftey feature if you get locked into your trunk). I ran a wire from the fuse box to the glovebox, and then another wire from the glovebox to the trunk. I piggybacked the wire from the fusebox off of an acc fuse (means that it is one that the car has to be on for it to work, ie: turnsignal, wipers) Then I connected the wire in the trunk to the positive side of the trunk release motor. Then I connected the two wires in the glovebox to a push button switch. Now the only thing that you would need to make sure of is that the switch engages the circuit and then releases it. Other wise your trunk release motor will be getting constant juice and your trunk wont close because the motor is in the open position. If you cant find a push button switch that works that way, you can always hook it to a toggle switch and just flip it on and then off whenever you need it. If you do this however, I dont know how your remote would still work. Maybe someone else can help out on that end. Now, the only reason that I hooked it up to a acc fuse is so that if some asshole gets the idea that they are gonna try and steal my car audio stuff, Im not gonna give them a working trunk release, theyre gonna have to work for it! If you prefer to run it to a constant fuse, ie: headlights, horn, you can do that and it would work no matter if the car is off or on. If this is confusing to you, feel free to ask me more questions, and I can take pics if you want me to. my99cavy 09-30-2006, 11:49 AM Yeah you might want to post some pics so we can see what it looks like and so we could get a better idea. JStumpalump150 09-30-2006, 03:13 PM ok, i plugged the speaker plug into the plug i found in the trunk and touched the ends togeather and made the doors unlock then lock then pop the trunk so i decided that was good enough for me, cuz i dont care if the doors unlock and lock as long as the trunk pops, so then i ran some 14 gauge wire under the carpet and under the trim to the dash and drilled a hole in the dash to mount it, and i goofed up and bought an on/off button instead of a regular push button so i have to push it twice to open the trunk but heck now i dont have to turn the car off, and the remote still works too. this took about ten minutes and cost $11, not to bad if i do say so myself here is a pick of the button mounted under the dash http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f268/JStumpalump150/CellPhonepics074.jpg my99cavy 09-30-2006, 03:45 PM awesome man looks like im going to be doing this mod myself. JStumpalump150 09-30-2006, 04:23 PM i think im going to replace that button with a lower profile button that i only have to push once Cavalier2000 09-30-2006, 09:00 PM looks good my99cavy 10-01-2006, 11:53 AM i think im going to replace that button with a lower profile button that i only have to push onceYeah I would definatley replace it with a lower pro one because that one kinda looks weird there IMO. 03cavPA 10-03-2006, 09:54 PM See if Radio Shack has one. I believe it's called a momentary switch. They might have one that fits flush with the surface of the dash. my99cavy 10-03-2006, 09:59 PM See if Radio Shack has one. Derk_eliso 10-03-2006, 10:29 PM wanna buy mine? lol... JStumpalump150 10-04-2006, 03:35 PM yeah, it has holes in the trunk where there were bottle mounts and a switch under the dash with a button on the dash and an arming light above it, ill get a pic when i get back from work JStumpalump150 10-04-2006, 03:44 PM just curious...are you really selling your nitrous? vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
