Van drives fine, park somewhere go back in and it starts for a second then shuts off. can't start anywhere from half hour to overnight. Happen last year and fuel pump was replaced. Day later did same thing. Ground screw was tighten. Been starting fine until 7/11/06 doing the same thing as before. Dealer thinks it may be in the theft deternt module but can't promise. Has anyone run across this random start issue

Often a bad ignition module will cause what you describe.

Thanks DF Bonnett
Dealer thinks it may be the security sensor which they say is the same as the ignition module jsut that I have a pass key 2 system so they call it the security module. Lets hope this is it. Tired of playing Russian Roulett with this van.

Two things. The theft deterrent module is not the same part as the ignition module. I believe there may have been a miscommunication with the dealer on that issue. When you say "doesn't start" do you mean cranks over but doesn't fire or doesn't crank at all?

Thanks again.
Dealer says yes the theft and ignition module are two different items. Vans cranks and starts for about one second, then it shuts off. Its like fuel is being caight off. Fuel pump is working. According to the codes there have been faults in the security sensor.

The codes are a pretty good indication of the nature of the problem. Usually there are specific diagnostic procedures to check the integrity of various components. Did they tell you the number of the code? I have the FSM for my '04 Express van and could try to look up the procedure.

The code that shows is P1626. Had the security sensor replace and got the van back Thursday (9/28/06). All I can do now is drive it and see what happens or I should say what doesn't happen.
