3.8 supercharger on a 3.4?

i have a 3.8 supercharged grand prix sitting in my driveway with a busted tranny that we are using as a parts car, and i recently bought a 94 3.4 camaro (117hp). anyway one day i had an idea that i could supercharge the camaro with the supercharger off the 3.8. so i got on the phone w/ some mechanics and some friends going through auto tech school and it seemed the general opinion that it may be possible, but so far no certain answers. so i was wondering if anyone out there had ever tried this or if you know if it will work, and if so what im going to need to complete this installation. thanks alot!

i don't think parts on the 3.8 work on the 3.4 and that 3.8 is diffrent from the one that the 3.8 camaro has i think. There is alot of work involved if it will even work.

i know the grand prix and camaro engines are different, but some of my friends seem to think that the differences between the 3.4 and 3.8 are internal i.e. stroke length, and that the blocks are very similar if not the same. everyone i have talked to thinks that if it will fit it will work, and i have heard of alot of ppl that have supercharged this engine (not with the 3.8 supercharger though) after i know if it will fit, the install should be no harder than a manifold swap. (which doesnt say much considering how far back this engine is tucked into the firewall) thanks for the input, and i would love to hear anymore ideas before i take the supercharger off tomorrow.

for a supercharger you will need more fuel (better fuel pump) and you will have to upgrade the head gaskets because the stock ones can't handel boost. The only reason the 3.4 sucks so bad is because the intake manifold and cam. Fix both of them and the 3.4 is not that bad.

The 3.4 and the 3.8 are totally different engines. The only thing I can think of that MAY be the same are some sensors.

Your biggest problem would be routing the intake. The intake on a GTP blower would be facing the firewall in an F-body. If you could successfully get that worked out, you would then have to find a way to get the charger to fit under the cowl and hood of the car. Actually, I'm not even sure that the s/c would bolt to the 3.4's lower intake, since it's designed for the 3.8's. I'm pretty sure the 3.4 and 3.8 have different lower intake manifolds, so that would be another problem with the setup.

I think by the time you're done trying to work out the clearance problems and routing the intake and all that...you would be better off just fabbing up a turbo system. You'd make a lot more power that way anyhow, and have an easier time doing it IMO.

Not to mention the paperweights GM thought would be good cylinder heads.

3.4 is a 60 degree orientation mtoor

3.8 is a 90 degree orientation motor.

No way no day.

what? i'm pretty sure the turbo trans am 3.1 has the same engine as the 3.4 except destroked. thought it could handle a little bit of boost

The Turbo Trans Am came with a 3.8L, which was slightly modified from the original 3.8L found in the Buick GN motor.

NO. it won't work, not even close. That's the short answer. You can't even put it on an L36 (camaro/firebird 3.8), only an L67
