New aluminum driveshaftCamaroRScrazy 09-20-2006, 03:30 PM Hi guys, I'm the one who took off the driveshaft very in a very inhuman way several days ago. :banghead: Now I have put the new aluminum custom made shaft on. The vibration is getting better, but now I get some noise when the speed is about 50MPH. It's like eng....... Anyone had similar problem before. The new shaft is a custom-made one with a diamter of 3.5". wrightz28 09-20-2006, 04:21 PM i'd hate to say, but any 'new' noises that arise may be result of the removal technique. Is the noise more from the rear end area, especially front of the differentiial? CamaroRScrazy 09-20-2006, 04:44 PM After I removed the old driveshaft, I was scared of what I had done, so I put the old one back. The car worked very good at that time. i'd hate to say, but any 'new' noises that arise may be result of the removal technique. Is the noise more from the rear end area, especially front of the differentiial? wrightz28 09-20-2006, 04:57 PM Hmm, have you contacted whoever made the shaft and asked them if they've heard of this before with their product? blindeyed 09-21-2006, 12:00 AM Why would you get a custom made one when you could have just got one off an LS1 f-body? CamaroRScrazy 09-21-2006, 11:31 PM Thanks for the replies. I guess the problem is probably because of the narrow clearance between the new shaft and the arm. Mine is a V6 which had a two-piece shaft before. So there is a bracket with two nuts for the center bearing. When the shaft is spinning, the air surrounding it will make some sound. I'm thinking to remove the bracket by myself, but found that the bracket is weld there. Dyno247365 09-21-2006, 11:47 PM Well congrats that you got the jobe done, but my driveshaft was rusted up and it just took a screwdriver...never played with a 2 piece drive-shaft though. What does it look like? Savage Messiah 09-22-2006, 12:27 AM Take a cutoff wheel to the ears on the DS and clearing a 3" DS isn't a problem, but I have foudn on my car that a 3.5" will just BARELY touch part of the bracing on the torque arm... only colution i can see is either cutting off some of that bracing (which would be pretty diffcult) or gettin an aftermarket torque arm (which i will but not anytime in the immediate future due to money)... mmmm UMI chromoly chissis-mounted torque arm... mmmm.... Mr. Luos 09-24-2006, 10:36 AM I will have a two piece LS1 driveshaft soon.  philly rs 09-24-2006, 11:11 PM when i had the rs i booted that 2 piece drive shaft out and put on one off an ls1 ta....did the same thing with this lt1. and i had no clue the torque arm would get in the way at all, but i have a bmr one so it is aftermarket 1986Z28 09-25-2006, 05:40 PM I will have a two piece LS1 driveshaft soon.  you shouild get a carbon fibre driveshaft Mr. Luos 09-25-2006, 06:53 PM Can't. Too close to the exhaust. philly rs 09-25-2006, 09:26 PM those things arent cheap...but they are rated high as hell for the power they can handle vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
