Hello

I have a 1988 Honda Accord LXi.. that needs a lot of engine work. Of course I dont have the money to do that. I was wondering first of all if anyone knew if I could register the car to a PO Box in Apache county, Arizona my parents have land up their but the land does not have an address.

If not this car will not pass emissions come the first of the year and I do not have a lot of money my bring home pay per month is 623.. I have rent, utilities, child support, car insurance, and life expenceses.. So honestly I cant afford to buy a new/another car and I really cant afford to fix this car either but I have to have a car to get to an from.

The only thing I could think of is getting this car registered in a county that does not have emissions but like I said I am not sure if they will let me register it to a PO BOX if anyone knows the answer to that let me know PLEASE... that would save me money... money that i dont have...

I don't know for sure, but I'm going to say probably not. I have a friend who sells insurance and we were talking about this subject (kind of). He said many people will register their car at an address outside of the city, so insurance is cheaper. Basically he said it's insurance fraud and it needs to be your permenant address. The insurance company can cancel your policy if htey find out it isn't. For this reason, I highly doubt they would accept a PO Box, as you could live in Texas and have a Massachusetts PO Box for all they know.

Sorry you are in such a predicament, financial issues can be tough. What all engine work does it need? How do you know you will fail emissions. Perhaps we can help with the specific problems. Just let us know more about them.

Welcome to AF.

I know here you must register it to a physical address or be able to show legal property ownership in the county you are trying to claim residency in...now if you have the ownership on the title transferred to your dad or whoever, then they could legally register it to their out of area property...but they'd also be responsible for the car, and therefore might not wanna do that....

Anyhow...that's the whole purpose of the emissions program, to get the old polluters off the road, and it is working....it sucks when it affects you personally, though, I know...

If I lived there, I'd definitely be riding a motorcycle year round, however...don't know if that's an option for you, but these days 50-60 mpg or better, $10 a month insurance, and great agility in traffic looks pretty good to a lot of people....

The problem with the car... The head gasket is warped and valve seal gasket is gone the car leak oil from every possible area it could leak from, it burns oil, smokes black bluish smoke comes out of the exhuast when driving it down the road, the enigine sometimes loses compression, the engine light is on almost 24/7, the engine idol is screwed up it goes up and down up and down after sitting for a 30 to 60 seconds at a stop light, train, or anything. Plus when you look under the hood you will notice that the car had a small electrical proble in the electrical box in the engine compartment that was in Jan of this year (five days after buying the car) I dont know what happened I hit the horn cause I got mad at someone and the horn went off and would not turn off and I pulled over to the side of the road and next thing the elcetircal box inside the engine compartment started sparking. A guy pulled over and did a few things to the car and told me the car was fine and I got into the car drove down the road and I have never had a problem again with it. To top that all off something inside the engine started to knock about two weeks ago... I just need to know if I can register it to a Po Box. I know the car is dead but I need my car..

I can no longer drive motorcycles I have sustained to many head injuries on ATV's and Motorcycle's in my lifetime... My neurologist told me I will die if I have another head injury like the one I had a few years ago. I have already suffered 3 major and 6 minor head injuries all except one head injury was not caused from motorcycles and ATV's that one would be my very first head injury at the age of 6 which was from a bikecycle accident... New York State suspended my mortorcycle lic.. and put reasons on the Lic and it carried over to Arizona's Lic and I am still not leaglly able to have a Motorcycle endorcement on my Lic...

But, Annalyn, you are NOT a snowbird. You DON'T live in your parents' trailer 7 months of the year, right? I understand your wishes, but ...

You are asking us to help you break the law (both the letter and the spirit). That isn't fair to the people here.

(Wow - I hope you drive your car more safely than you rode your motercycle. You could kill a lot of other people).

Wow. You got a tough set of problems to overcome. I wish you luck, but I think distancing yourself from that car ASAP is gonna save you more trouble with the law and money....you'd be better off with a less complex older vehicle. The emissions standards are not as tight, and they are much simpler to fix. That car you have is just gonna attract cops attention to you and let you down anyway...

AccordCodger: OK Johnny Law... you do know some people have lives, right? First: I am not asking you to break any laws. In my first letter I asked if I could register a car at a PO BOX that was it. Read!!! Besides, You wouldn't be registering the car I would be, so It wouldn't be your problem if it was illegal. It would become my problem. Second: The only spirit I am hurting is your own. Third: I am at the land a lot and it is just as mine as it is my parents land. This year I stayed in the trailer almost all summer cause I only had once a week therapy sessions. I go up their to get out of Phoenix's Summer HEAT and plan on moving up their once recovery is finalized, but their is no doctors or therapists up their to help me with my recovery plan otherwise I would be their right now. Fourth: You have no idea what happened in any of my accidents (WHERE YOU THEIR? "NO") and you dont even know why NY state Revoked my Motorcycle lic they also revoked my Regular Lic to for 6 months after my last accident... You shouldn't be so judgemental until you find out the true facts. Think before you speak. Not that I have to tell you this but I will anyways: The reason behind the revoked Lic was due to a seizure when I was in my last accident. Also, the Doctors stated that I shouldn't drive a motorcycle again casue it could kill me if I get into another reck. So NY wouldn't give me my Motorcycles Lic back. I could get it here in Arizona however, I have to have a Doctors note stating I can get that endorcement. You know what, I dont want it, my life is worth to much to me.. OH by the way! I was hit by a drunk driver in my last accident. All three of my Motorcycle accidents that happened on the road were not my fault. However yes all my ATV accidents were my fualt... I was being a dumb ass and I got to damn cocky...

TO: jeffcoslacker & Igovert500 I would love an older less complex car 60's or 70's model.. I just have to find $$$ first. I was given 1500 for Christmas to get a car and when a friend and I got this car it seemed fine... However, I contacted MVD today. I found out it is OK to register the car at the land cause the car will still be registered in the State of Arizona. I just have to bring the copy of the property title to the MVD when registering the car to show that I am on the title of the property with my mom and dad and show that their is no physical address to the property. I want to thank you for all your help it is appreciated... Good luck with everything in life.
