windshield wipers

I am having a strange problem with my windshield wipers on my 99 Venture. They work, but they run real slow. When I switch to high, they speed up a little, but are still slow. The only way I know how to describe the speed is that they run like the van has a dead battery. If I disconnect the wiper arms, the motor seems to run faster. I have tried lubing all the pivot points on the arms with no luck. Is it possible that the wiper motor is just getting weak? Anyone else have this problem or any ideas before I take it to a garage.
Thanks,
Dom

Wow... I do have the same problem. But i ended up having no more wiper. The cause for my problem was the driver side pivot which was jammed. I came to this conclusion after manually forcing the movement with very little success. Then i separated the links between the 2 sides and , houray!, the passenger side was perfect while the driver side was stuck.

Si i drove a while with only the passenger side working... (yes, tilting my head towards the right to see something during rainy days) but i finally got a used part to replace the pivot.

My problem: I can't seem to be able to remove the top cam for the wiper motor. I have the T30 tool to unscrew the bolt, but the whole motor turns when i want to unscrew.

Does anyone have a trick i can use to properly and securely remove the top part of the motor assembly so i can replace the linkage assembly.

Thanks a million.

Titouenne, You really don't have to take off the cam assembly to get the linkage off. The linkage can be removed by loosening (you don't have to remove them) the 2 screws on the link arm by the ball joint.

If you are bound and determined to loosen the T-30 just place a block of wood between the cam and the mounting plate to prevent the cam from turning. The T-30 should come out relatively easy.

There is proceedure in this forum somewhere on how to put the cam back on so that it is in the correct orientation, see the following thread:

Good luck, post back with the results,

Thanks a million Sparky.

Your reply is appreciated... but guess what, i used my common sense and read more topics and figured i could "jam" the mecanism with a vice-grip. It did the trick and 90 minutes later, i had a set of working wipers !

Cheers, Titouenne
