I just got done rootin with some of my other buddies and was headin back into town, and decided to jump on the interstate. As I merge onto the highway, theres a car about 50yrds ahead. It looks like a Firebird, so we weave in and out of traffic and I finally catch up too it. A red 3000GT SL.. well. It had the SL Wheels. Easy kill... I decide to pace him and see if hes game. My friends start hollering out the window to go for it. I down shift to 2nd at 60, which puts me in the sweet spot on the 4.6 I hear him downshift, punch it, and listen to the turbo spool up. WTF? :uhoh:

We're pretty much even, but the 3KGT starts to pull away. Not a total rape, but just a slow walk. Click it into Drive at around 80 and hes got 2 carlengths on me. By 90, 2, by 115 hes gone because I hit my top speed limiter. I catch back up to him, and decide to go for it a second time, with the same results. By 115 he had about a buslength on me. I catch up to him, and pass him to get off my exit ramp. I give the thumbs up, and he gives me a friendly honk. A good death... :icon16:

Some people have turbo-charged their R/Ts and SLs.

Nice death. If that was a twin turbo'd SL or R/T then you really did well. The FWD TT's are capable of 12's with great tires to hook up. The first gen VR4 and SL have very similar wheels though. Are you sure it was a SL?

it had the sl wheels, could have been a vr4 who had sl type wheels cause his went bad?

was it a firt gen 3000gt or second gen?

My vote goes to the vr4 with SL wheels or perhaps you mistook them for SL wheels....otherwise, SL or RT-TT = highway monster. Heck at 60mph I still have traction issues... :)

I've seen this happen plenty of times. Mainly because my friend Jeff has a red SL that has a nice T66 turbo in it. :)

Good loss. Those VR4's do have some top end, though they're not known for it stock.

Also the aerodynamics on the 3000GT are sick. Gotian beat my base 3kgt out by a car but on the highway after 80mph he couldnt catch it.
