I have a 95 Chevy 1/2ton heavy duty G-20 van.. It runs great accelerating. When i stop it surges. rpm's go up then down... I guessing its the sensor by the carb. Anybody know...Thanks in advance

A '95 G-20 shouldn't have a carburetor. The fuel injection system (TBI) uses an idle air control stepper motor to regulate idle RPM, and your's may require cleaning.

Thanks Blue. I'll check it out...

If cleaning the idle air doesn't work I would try a throttle position sensor.
They will make the idle speed change rapidly if they are bad. Some yards will sell them for around 3 to 5 dollars if hard up for money.

Another thing to check is the EGR valve. I wouldn't trust a used TPS. They are about $30 brand new.

Did both of those, still surges, I'll keep watching, please let us know what fixes it for you!

Thanks for the info guys.. Havent fixed it yet.. I had a Mech. plug in a device under the dash and he said the device read >> M.A.P. (manifold absolute pressure) OR the M.A.F. (mass air flow) sensors were bad...

I will post when i fix it..

Thanks again.

Does a 95 even have a mass air flow sensor? The MAP sensor is mounted on the right side valve cover, unless they moved it. Sometimes, the little "filter" rots out and falls off, which could change the readings. It's just a piece of foam rubber.

I have a G20 3/4 Ton and when I start it it surges from very low idle to high idle. I also would like to know if anybody knows what causes this????
