Pitman Arm Question

Has anyone tried to replace theirs? Factory service manual says it can be replaced without removing the steering box. The nut looks real tough to get at not to mention trying to get the arm itself off without the right angle factory remover.

Anyone done it with the box in? Or, just pull the whole box?

thx

Those pics are of a 2wd. I have the GM service manual and it doesnt say to remove the steering box. The issue is a cross member is right the below the pitman nut with only about 1/2" clearance. Its also a 36mm nut at about 250ft lb of torque. Seems it would be hard to get it off without an impact but one wont fit.

It is not just a matter of getting the nut off you will need a pro quality puller to get the arm off also. I thought further down the page in that link referred to 4wd.

The box is in there at such an angle that I couldn't get anything on the nut. Removing the box was the way to go.
