Is a car with LSD street legal?DylanTrott 09-01-2006, 04:54 PM I know what a LSD is (Limited Slip Differential.) But my question is is a car with a LSD street legal? Thanks in advance. Dylan VR43000GT 09-01-2006, 05:16 PM Yes a LSD is street legal. I don't know why you would think it wouldn't be. Some cars (VR4 to name one) have them stock. Are you sure your not thinking of LSD the drug being illegal? Otherwise I don't know how someone could come up with such a wild idea. Hope that helps. Mus2kgen 09-01-2006, 05:26 PM yes. in fact many cars from the factory come with LSDs. Like the S2000, Skyline, and Supra RZ. DylanTrott 09-01-2006, 05:29 PM hahaha!!! No I'm not thinking of the drug, I'm not stupid. I really know nothing about LSD cept for what it does (in a car I mean) so I was just wondering if it was street legal or not. VR43000GT 09-01-2006, 05:31 PM Ok. Just out of curiosity why would you think something that assists in traction would be illegal? G-man422 09-01-2006, 06:08 PM To answer the question, no, they are not illegal. "The only stupid question is the one not asked." -The Stig- 09-01-2006, 06:43 PM To answer the question, no, they are not illegal. "The only stupid question is the one not asked." More like... "There are no stupid questions, just stupid people." DylanTrott 09-01-2006, 08:38 PM More like... "There are no stupid questions, just stupid people." Are you implying I'm stupid? DylanTrott 09-01-2006, 08:38 PM Ok. Just out of curiosity why would you think something that assists in traction would be illegal? Very valid point. drunken monkey 09-01-2006, 08:42 PM are you sure you know what an lsd does? DylanTrott 09-02-2006, 05:14 PM Yea, it gives the wheels slipping more tourque... right? drftk1d 09-22-2006, 11:52 PM Yea, it gives the wheels slipping more tourque... right? No, it gives the non slipping wheels more torque. If the slipping wheels got more torque, they'd slip more. http://auto.howstuffworks.com/differential1.htm Dyno247365 09-23-2006, 01:11 AM It makes both wheels spin as opposed to one only. Camaros come stock with it. EVOclipse 10-11-2006, 08:21 PM boy whata bunch of assholes...talking shit in the forums.... if you want to know why someone might ask why a beneficial mod would be street legal? why dont you ask about your 4-5 point racing harnesses and those bride seats......theyre not street legal. safer but still not legally DOT approved. there still arent stupid questions only stupid people who are too closed minded to stop assuming EVERYONE knows what they know. VR43000GT 10-11-2006, 09:00 PM ^^ Sounds like something you would here come out of some of those Honda forums. SilentNIght1647 11-26-2006, 12:22 PM LSD, Posi-Trac, welded spiders, locking diffs, all are legal and all are fundamentally the same thing and they are all legal on the street. Back in the day most cars came stock with posis but nowadays it is an option in some cars and not available from the factory in others. Most modifications are legal with the exception of nitrous and anything that lowers your vehicles overall safety. Rollcages, strut braces, wider wheels, aftermarket suspension, bigger brakes are all legal and actually should be encouraged because they offer superior performance to factory parts and increase a vehicles overall safety. And hell even if all that stuff was illegal I'd still drive my Z. -The Stig- 11-26-2006, 03:54 PM What year Z? SilentNIght1647 12-03-2006, 10:27 PM '72, some of that stuff is in the future mod list but the cage, wheels, and 9" posi are all in the trial and error stages. midgetracing28 01-03-2007, 11:00 PM Lsd is street legal hell a full spool is legal just a pain in the ass to drive turn corners with ask a drag racer with one.Just in case someone wants to question what a spool is heres an explanation. A piece about the size of a lsd that is just solid and locks both tires together and gives both constant torque.not recomended for anything but drag and dirt tracks although it might good ok for a drifter if u could ever find one to fit a ricer. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
