So I have a new-to-me '99 s-10 2.2L 4-cyl. I thought that it may have a rear main seal leak, but I recently replaced the clutch and the seal looked fine. The oil pan gasket on the other hand looks to be leaking . . . the book makes it look like a bear . . . removing the engine and everything. Is it possible to replace the seal without taking the engine out? Dealer wants $870 for it . . . not going to happen. Anyone have suggestions?

WOW!!! I can't believe nobody even responded to this. I have the same issue on my 2000 2.2 ltr. I have the tranny down to replace and thought I might as well replace the leaking oil pan gasket if I could. The motor only has about 35K on it after re-manufacture. It looks like I can pull the motor mount bolts and lift the motor enough to get the pan out without disconnecting everything else.
