Leaking Hose. Need help identifying hose.

Just got my 96 4 cyclinder 198K miles truck back from the mechanic I just spent $400 only 2 days ago. The headlight switch/dimmer burned out. So that is replaced.
Now, I smell (same kinda smell from when headgasket blew) coolant burning. I looked under the hood and found a small pinhole squirting coolant (what I am thinking) out of a hose. I checked radiator and it is bare. As you are looking under the hood (middle leftish) there are two hoses (beside each other) that seem to come out of the back of the dash. The one on the left is leaking. It is a rubber hose for a few inches before attaching to a metal hose. They are connected with a large crimped looking "silver ring".
What is this hose called and how/if can I change it out?

only thing that comes to mind are the hoses that connect to the heater core. anyone else????

Sounds like a heater hose. "Silver ring" is probably a hose clamp.

They are certainly heater hoses. They are ferrule-crimped hoses connecting to steel lines. They are normally replaced as a complete assembly ($$$) but can be repaired with standard heater hose and worm-drive hose clamps. The ferrules must be cut away longitudally (in line with the hose) and split away from the hose. It's far easier to do this with the whole hose/standpipe assembly off the vehicle, but if you are patient and industrious, you might be able to do it in place.

I presume you are asking about the hoses pictured in the top/center of this photo?

if its a smaller hose then its heater core, the coolant only is in5 hoses, upper and lower rad/heater core supply/return and the overflow, overflow is small, upper and lower are huge, if they are side by side and the same size, replace the heater lines, I think the one on the left is a return.

That's it. The one on the left. It had a pinhole in it a couple of inches from where it conencted to the heater core. When I went to get the hose I was given the "rubber" heater hose part. I cut that leaking section out and replaced it and clamped it on both sides.
Now (week or so later) I smell a strong hint of coolant with my heater on. Could I have damaged the core and caused another problem? I do know that the original problem (the burning cooland smell) was due to the pinhole because I could open the hood and see it squirting). The smell went away but now the coolant smell from the heater is there. There is no fog from the heater and there is no puddle under the car of coolant.

Where did I screw up?

Just got home.
The smell is STRONG after starting from a dead stop (stop light etc).
Heard the core gurgle also. Still no sign of leakage though.

Heater Core is leaking. Carpet is wet on the inside and radiator was lower then "normal". I guesss I damaged it when replacing the hose.
I heard it was not the easiest thing to get to.
Are there any other options then just to replace the core?
