Purchased a 2006 CR-V last week, and after agreeing to the purchase, the dealer tried to sell me on a bunch of extras like extended warranties, gap insurance, fabric protection, etc. as most dealers do. One thing they told me was that in 2003, GM and Honda stopped dipping their doors and body panels for rust protection to reduce costs to people who live in areas where humidity and road salts aren't a problem, and began recommending additional rust-proofing to purchasers in areas with high humidity or use of road salts. I can't find anything to back this up. Is this true?

I highly doubt that. Pretty much all manufacturers, including GM and Honda, have dual sided galvanized body panels and single sided galvanized roof panels. When I bought my 2005 CRV, I also got the optional undercoating. I live in an area with harsh winters and lots of road salt.

I have my 2000 crv rust Check protected and there is no rust anywhere. I think it's worth the money.I see many crv's with visible rust.
