Where is the oil sensor located on the 2000 Alero? i'm hoping to only spend $11 on the sensor instead of bringing it in and spending $90 to find out that's what it was and then another $90 for them to put it in.

Also, it might be nice to know where the reset button is for the oil light. If there is one on the 00' Alero. i've heard there is one on the 01' Alero. i'll be searching as i wait for a response.

i drive a 2000 Alero and recently had the oil changed. There is currently enough oil in the car. The oil light still comes on though. It only happens when the car is idle and sometimes when i'm slowing down. As soon as i rev the engine a little the light goes off. Once the RPMs get back down a moment later the light is back on. Sometimes the light flickers and sometimes it's solid. I'm hoping it's just the sensor. Does anyone else know what it could be?

Found it, and it seems to be working, the light isn't going off anymore. i think the place i got an oil change at put too much in. Oil was leaking out near the sensor. i'll be keeping an eye on that are for oil now.

I'd change it. Most of the GM wiring diagrams I've seen use the oil pressure switch as a secondary power supply for the fuel pump. If oil is leaking through the sensor it could short out & blow the fuel pump fuse leaving you with an expensive towing bill.

I do not believe he has to worry about having a combination oil pressure/fuel pump switch used as secondary power for the fuel pump circuits. That configuration is not used on an Alero with the 2.4L or 3.4L.

The last GM cars I worked with that had a oil pressure/fuel pump switch was a mid nineties "H" body - Buick LeSabre and Pontiac Bonneville.

If it is still being used the GM service manual wiring diagrams that I have do not reflect that.
